Within 5 minutes of Hotel de la Plage, we stumbled upon this restaurant as seen Google Maps with just one review. They were booked solid on Oct 01 for the night, and we thought it was near off season! That many reservations meant it would be good - and the owner said they could squeeze us in as we arrived... Another town stalwart first recommended to me 30 years ago by my parents yet this was my first visit. Menu is manageable and will cover most tastes. My terrine starter was a meaty little number while my main course of sole meuniere was superbly prepared and perfectly accompanied by boiled potatoes. My dessert was not on the menu and prepared... A small restaurant with nice lighting and ceiling fans that were controlled by pulling on.a string True home cooking with fantastic paella Even the chicken in the paella was delicious as opposed to the usual dry faire Fantastic find an we will surely visit again during our three day stay Why take a chance elsewhere

This typ typical basque restaurant has a family atmosphere and tasty basque food. Don't miss it if you're looking for a genuine basque restaurant.

As a French guy living now in the USA, I so enjoyed this family restaurant in st jean de luz. The food is very good and there is a LOT of food on the table to eat. Its really fresh and prepared for you. Very typical family restaurant. I'll be back.. One day. Bravo Maya!

This is a "cozy" restaurant. Feels like home. The servers were wonderful. Made you feel welcome. The Basque cuisine is excellent. The place has a "rustic" feel. Mid price range and well worth trying.

Unique old decor and friendly small restaurant. Be sure to have a reservation during the week-ends and holidays if it s not every day. We tried the Gambas and the Bouillabaisse. Both were excellent.the sauce for the Gambas was a hearty and testy fish soup . The boulllabasse had a good mixture of fish and shellfish with a light broth.... More

As others have mentioned, this is like going to your grandmother's. Nothing has changed since we came here 20+ years ago. Same delightful servers, menu and decor. Probably 10-12 tables that are full within a half hour of opening. This is not for those seeking a leading edge gastronomical experience... It's comfort food in the local tradition in an intimate... We stopped in for lunch and found the room charming and atmospheric, a perfect place along the Basque coast. The service was excellent and understanding of our English. The food was excellent and very fresh, served in large portions. The sole I had was very good

The owner of La Marisa made a reservation for us here. She described the restaurant as like eating at your French grandmother's house. Even though I don't have a French grandmother I have no doubt it is true. She also advised us to order the chocolate soufflé when you first order your meal as it is not on the menu... More
