We were trying to find a place to eat lunch on a quiet Sunday. Walking down Berbisey at night is very lively...but during the day, it's not the best neighborhood. We entertained ourselves watching the guy who sat and occasionally gave commentary while drinking in a doorway nearby. We weren't sure if the restaurant was open, but when we walked... More

Me and my wife went there from reviews from the telegraph. Which recommend the Poulet a la Gaston Gerard. We were worried at first as we were the only diners. But the food was good honest home cooked food. We don't each much so we shared this, and was plenty. Went Nicely with a beer.

If you want to taste excellent "Burgundy Food", this is the place. There is no other choice...so if you like spaghetti or seafood, go somewhere else...The food served is of excellent quality and the sauces a marvel. Don't forget to reserve in advance, because the place is small. Nice decoration, perfect swervice...

While it was recommended in our travel guide, we were very disappointed. The food was average. Mash potatoes were tasteless there was no other veggies served with a chicken dish prepared in a heavy cheese sauce. I would pass...

I really stuffed up choosing this place. We liked the look of the dining room. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. But I should have been alerted to the fact it would be pretty ordinary because it was empty on Thursday at 8 pm. Also felt quite guilty, as I am sure a young couple came in straight after us... This is an unpretentious upbeat place with good service and very tasty food at a relatively low cost. It turned out to be a great choice for a fairly quick but defintely enjoyable lunch. It's not on an attractive street, but is close to the more touristy Place Emile Zola and is easy to find. The ice cream/sherbet combination I... More

I can't believe this is in the Lonely Planet guide. We were wandering around one night - a day after the excellent Petit Roi and a day before La Dame D'Aquitane, no less! - and stumbled on this place. The fact that it was empty should have clued us in; not even one of the waitress' constant stream of friends... More

we've followed recommendation of lonely planet and were disappointed. The food was pre-cooked and came straight from microwave oven (we heard ding-ding and our dishes were delivered). The service was very poor, e.g. they served old baguette (old-crispy, grey-white colored etc.) on my request they brought a fresh one. Thus, the only positive side is that they are open on... More

I dream of the Poulet a la Gaston Gerard from La Mere Folle. This restaurant is often crowded, as the other reviewer said, the service is not super attentive, but the food is definitely not "cafeteria level". Of the half a dozen times I've eaten here, it has never been a disappointement. The waiters/waitresses basically let you sit, relax, and... More

Had I only researched a restaurant on tripadvisor! Unfortunately I relied on the green guide Michelin and lonely planet France who both recommended this restaurant. The food was cafeteria level at best, the service desinterested. Not even to an enemy would I recommend this restaurant. On our stroll back to the Hotel at around 10 p.m. we saw restaurants packed...
