We were in Azay-le-Rideau on a Sunday evening - not much was open but we were pleased to find Les Grottes open, and not too busy. Our menus: escargot provencal + medallion of veau, and noix de St Jacques and large piece of beef - the latter was easily enough for two. The 75cl pichet of Chinon was very reasonably... More

We arrived in Azay-Le-Rideau in the early evening, having driven down from the UK. Upon checking into the Hotel Biencourt, the proprietor recommended a couple of local restaurants, one of which was Les Grottes. Having passed it on the way in, we thought we'd give it a go. We were found a table with no fuss, and started tucking into... More

Our group of 6 dined here on our second night in Azay le Rideau. An interesting and atmospheric dining experience. It was busy, but the service was excellent and menu selection catered for all tastes. I had the escargots (12) which were quite good but they were topped with a very oily toasted cap and had tomato with the garlic... More

Returned to Les Grottes after four years away. The place has changed little with great rustic charm. The food is still of good quality and good value. The amuse-bouche was excellent and kept our party of six occupied whilst ordering. Starters were high quality from boudin noir -roquefort parcels to 'swinging' salads. Mains were all appreciated and enjoyed, the Ox... More

This restaurant, cosily located in a real cave, has an excellent standard of food at very reasonable prices - highly recommended.

My wife and I enjoyed an evening meal in Les Grottes in late September - sitting outside in the late summer sun. The meal and the service were fine and it proved to be a most relaxing evening in pleasant surroundings.

Our host recommend and helped with reservation which was great. We had the fish terrine, scallops, fish cheeks, lamb and sugar. All good. Even tried local wine. Server was helpful and the place is a cave that was a home and later a wine cellar. Lovely history and the garden is nice venue up eat in.

We ate dinner here with our family of 5. Service was quick and polite. The food was very good as was the wine recommendation.

A very pleasant restaurant on a roundabout a couple of hundred yards away from the centre of Azay Le R. Plenty of outdoor, covered seating as well as the inside where the dining rooms are carved into the natural rock. We opted for the inside as it was still a very warm evening Friendly and efficient greeting and seating by... More

Unique setting with the main restaurant in a cave in the hillside and a large covered and enclosed terrace outside - looks a bit like somebody's walled garden from outside! We have eaten in this beautiful setting several times and have never been disappointed. The menu is extensive and often adventurous, and definitely at the fine dining end of the... More
