We didn't know this little tea shop had a reputation as a writer's roost, but after being there, I can certainly believe it. It's a nice little place to linger over a cup of tea and a freshly baked pastry. The tea selection was the broadest of any café we happened by during our stay in Paris.

It's one of the few places in Paris that still inspires artists, writers and creative minds. If you're alone and want to observe a writer, an artist or a philosopher at work come here alone and keep your silence. It's not recommended for tourists.

This used to be a very relaxed, cozy-like-home, wonderful hangout for students, friends, couples and those who would chat over a pot of tea for hours and hours. Some would work on their school reports with their laptop plugged in, some would knit, some would read... this is why I kept coming back to this place for the past 5... More

We had homemade soups and nice cake for desert. The place is nice, cost and the girls behind the counter are so nice to you. A great spot for lunch or a nice coffee !

I often go to this place with my friends. If possible we find a table on the first floor by the window. They have couches, chairs, higher and lower tables, and you choose according to what you like or need. They have delicious pies, cakes and tees. Clean place, and if you do get a table by the window you... More

Nice place to stop by after a visit to Notre Dame. Service is good, pistachio ice cream with chocolate glaze is delicious!

That's the spirit of Paris which has been stuck in 30s but this place kept some part of it. I recommend it for artists and creative writers

Splendid typical French traditional decor with good food..Always crowded and busy so waiting time may vary.. but it's worth it.

Lovely afternoon tea spot near hotel de ville but you shouldn't be in a rush when you come- the attendant literally took about 15 minutes befor even taking our order on a quiet Monday afternoon .

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
