Wonderful experience. The food was delicious and unique. The staff were very nice and did a nice job of explaining each dish. We did the full tasting menu and enjoy all parts and variety. Highly recommend this for anyone as it is something you won't...find anywhere else.More

My friend asked me where we went for food in Paris and I said we went to a couple Japanese places and he asked us why we didn't go to bistros with incredulity. Shu is reason enough alone. This place was great. It's on a...side street in St Germain and you enter through a little elf cottage-like door making sure to duck your head so you don't smash your head against it. The place itself is small but does evoke visions of my favorite izakaya on St Marks in Manhattan. Now when you think Japanese, you may instantly think sushi or udon but this place is not that. It is a tasting menu and prix-fixed. They start you with a starter then sushi then the reason why you came - 15 different tempura skewers of 15 different food items. Here's the problem when you write the TA review 2 weeks later, you forget all the skewers. But there was all kinds of vegetables and meats including a crab claw and a foie gras. Everything was so good - lightly fried, not greasy or heavy. Including the tasting menu for 2 along with drinks, the bill came out to 200 US which looking back away it, I don't know why we only went once.More

Our curiosity was piqued by all of the mention of the strange door (which is tiny and you do need to crawl/duck through). Aside from the unique experience of going through the door, the entire meal was memorable. The sashimi was delicious and the fried...dishes were incredible. My favorite was the foie gras deep fried. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to returning.More

Looking for some hide-away japanese food in Paris? Then head for the restaurant Shu located in the area of St. Germain-des-Près. An incredible small door leads you down to the restaurant, where you will be met with a warm smile and a personal atmosphere. Try...the sparkling Sake. Go with one of the tasting menues, and indulge yourself with Champagne. Be prepared to have several fried pieces for the Main-course, so if you are not into that, go with the excellent Sashimi.More

I chose this as a Birthday surprise dinner and I am glad I did. Your experience starts with an entry through a tiny tiny door down into the limestone restaurant. Honestly our hotel balcony overlooked this place and we had no idea it was there...until we went for dinner. A small intimate pair of rooms open to the chef and sous chef add to he delightful experience. The menu can be summed up as: everything the chef wants to make, or some of the things the chef wants to make. Go for the everything and throw in a bottle of sake too. The food was amazing and the staff speaks fluent Japanese, French, and English. Sadly my French was so good by this time that they assumed I was French and never told us in English what everything was... but honestly that’s okay. It was a true delight. I can not recommend this place enough. Six Stars at a 4 star price!More

We joined some friends for an evening at SHU. We had a very warm welcome and the service throughout was excellent. We had the choice of two set menus (€42 & €52). We had the latter and we were not disappointed, by many taster dishes,...raw fish and particularly deep fried, breadcrumbed skewers of various types of food. The sake was excellent and although this was not a cheap meal, I would still recommend a visit to anyone who likes quality Japanese foodMore

The restaurant is located in a basement and one must make sue not to bang one's head upon entrance. Once inside, you are in Japan.. THis is one of the most typical Japanese restaurants that I have ever visited. The manners of the waiters, the...personal care, the willingness to please, all that comes to play before the first bite. There are two menus to choose from - one with Sashimi and the other without. Difference in price is small 52 with, 48 without. The main part of the meal is the 15 small bites that are deep fried and are served on skewers, three at a rime.. If you add cold Sake which comes in a beautiful container that is cut like a bamboo flute, it is pure joy !!More

Very authentically Japanese dining experience. Prix-fixe menus only, centered on kushi-age (various foods on skewers, deep fried). Sashimi is served as appetizer - some of the best sashimi I've had outside of Japan. (Quantity of sashimi is small, but quality is outstanding.) A bit on...the expensive side, but I think you get your money's worth.More

A near miss with a small door leading to a serenely beautiful Restaurant. Mainly non-sushi dishes are the best ones with seafood being exceptionally well prepared.

Amazing food, amazing service. Highly recommend. We had the full tasting menu and it was so fabulous. Highlights were the artichoke and scallop with tofu cream, and the teriyaki cod. The recommended sparkling sake was the perfect accompaniment.
