Excellent wine bar a few meters away from the Odéon metro station. The very good bread is a trademark as well as the small hill of butter on the bar. Ask for it! The wine list is excellent as are the small plates of appetizers...that arrive very quickly in front of you. It is value for money option! Highly recommended!More

L'Avant Comptoir has become my "go-to" spot when traveling solo in Paris. After walking around all day, I enjoyed 3 early dinners (at about 4:00pm) on 3 separate weekdays. I ordered 2-3 dishes from the menu and asked the servers to pair wines for me....Virtually all their wines are "bio" (organic) from small producers. It is worth asking the servers to tell you a bit about their wines. Desserts are also wonderful here--since the kitchen is the same as the pricier "Le Comptoir" next door. I have never been disappointed here. And it's an ideal spot when traveling solo (because I wanted good food and wine, but did not want to be out late on the streets by myself. So L'Avant Comptoir is a win-win in this regard. Go anytime that suits you.) I found summer weekday afternoons were nice and empty. I easily got a seat at the bar. When I visited mid-winter, however, I found it much too crowded at peak dinner time.More

Exceptional! 2 different, close by choices “land” or “sea”; I tried the sea (“Mer”) .. just great! Nice choices of delicious fishy entrees .. tasty, original, great ingredients and perfectly prepared .. amazing (natural) wine choice .. great gastronomical bistrot feeling.. my new hq!

Some of the best food we had in 10 days in Paris. Also, the most interesting wine selection. The pate de campagne was the standout for me but everything was excellent. The only thing is-this is a standup place so it's not meant to be...a place to linger. I 100% recommend.More

Last time we visited was October 2019 and raved about this place so had high expectations. The foie gras on a skewer with red pepper was sublime and a must-have disk. As for the rest, it was a disappointment. The bordier butter which I raved...about beforehand was a mild low salt imitation that lacked depth of flavour. The yellow cantered bread had an incredible crust and at midday opening was freshly baked and warm but again not one I would want again. Foie gras with cherries unremarkable and chef did not have cherries. Grumpy front of house did not tell us this when we ordered and we had to ask the chef where the cherries were. Fries were soggy. The ox tail tasted delicious on its own but the toasted sandwich was soggy . Not crunchy so no texture and not like gravy-drenched but crunch fried bread under a chateaubriand. I think most likely cooked in butter which will never produce crunchy texture. I highly recommend the foie gras with red peppers. We are foodies but do not drink alcohol and as such were publicly mocked and treated with distain. Paris is changing and in most restaurants we visited this was politely acceptedMore

This is the only restaurant in France where the waitstaff treated us like they'd rather we stayed home. Food was pretty good. Traditionally slow - 2h meal.

Great, nice and busy place to eat on the "front counter". Owner and staff were great! They suggested different wines and food. The "bacalao" (cod fish) croquets or ham croquets were awesome. If you are not sure what to eat, you can simply look up...at the various cards (photos) hanging from the ceiling of the food they serve, including desserts! Also, just look around at what is being served and try it, you can't go wrong in this place! Oh, and while you are waiting for your food order(s) you must enjoy the fresh warm bread and scrumptiously fresh churned butter, with your wine of course!!More

We visited here after seeing the great reviews and it wasn’t far from our hotel. We loved that there were no seats and the menu was on the ceiling. Really enjoyed the food, highly recommend the sausage and fondue Came back on our last night...but unfortunately somebody was sick on the floor and there was a group of people who were way too drunk and eventually asked to leave. Shame on our last night as we would have stayed longer.More

The other answers are correct. You could eat your fill, but might not have a stool. Unless you love crowds (which can be fun) go off hours (and before 7 pm). Expect to pay about Euro 35 for a satisfying appetizer.
