I was recommended to come here as this had a reputation of a great cuisine at affordable prices and was very typical french. First of all, there was no english version of the menu and, even though I understand a bit of french, the names of the dishes were completely mysterious for me. I was with another colleague who also... More

Wonderful meal and great wine recommendation from our waiter Eric. We had come the night before just for appetizers and enjoyed ourselves so much and we're so impressed by the quality of the food (vegetable soup, smoked salmon and cheese plate) that we wanted to come back for a full dinner. Eric recommended an excellent vegetable appetizer with pesto and... More

I was there for the second time and the experience exceeded expectations. The Dover sole deserved 5 stars, the wine incredible and the staff was out of a movie. Not to be missed on either your first or hundredth visit to the city. Pssst - don't tell anyone.

If your idea of a five star rating means that everything is perfect than you and I have a different meaning of a five star designation. My interpretation of that rating is that everything is what it's supposed to be--for restaurants, of course the food should be very good (great's not necessary), the service should be personal and attentive (not... I arrived with a colleague for dinner without prior booking after a walk on the seine close to Musée du Louvre, the staff didn't give us an awkward " where d'you think we can sit you without a booking ? " look. We got a table , for two, in the middle close to the kitchen and till area but... More

This restaurant is patronised by real parisians, and that makes the menu a bit more interesting than the usual tourist places. So I had a very good ris d'agneau (lamb sweetbread). Never tasted this before. My partner had sole meunière which was cut into fillet at our table, as tradition has it. Terrific desserts: a baba au rum, and a... More

Visited with work colleagues one evening for a pleasant meal. They did not have an English menu but the staff are able to translate for you. It is a bit of a walk from the touristy spots like the Champs Elysees but we enjoyed the walk across the bridge and along the river then past the Musee d'Orsay.

We went here because of the cross ownership with Chez Georges. Did not like nearly as much. Location makes this place very popular with tourists. Waiters not the most friendly. You get the feeling there is joke they are not letting you in on and the bill is not cheap. Not quite as genuine as Chez Georges IMHO.

We only had breakfast here but felt like it was our local because it was close to our Hotel and we often stopped for coffee in the afternoon as well. Very welcoming.

Only a few streets south of the Seine yet this place seems to be mainly for locals. They still close for the grandes vacances for the month of August. Have eaten here many times and have not had a bad meal. Some have been better than others. On this visit the lamb and the steak were both excellent. Some of... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighbourhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighbourhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighbourhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
