We were two to eat here. The service was very good. My partner and I chose the same meal. She enjoyed hers, and I found my meat much too tough. In general, not a restaurant that left me with a desire to return.

I've dined at Le Chantefable twice and enjoyed it immensely. The menu is traditional, the food is delicious, the hospitality is superb, and the atmosphere is warm. If you've ever thought that Parisians are brusque or unfriendly, Le Chantefable will change your mind. Located very close to Place Gambetta, a lively neighborhood with good theater in the 20th.

Oldy-worldy interior where one senses decades of Parisian life and honest food; we were there for lunch in the week and although one could find a table it was packed with all kinds of diners. The atmosphere is congenial, the service tip-top without the snobby waiters often so typical of a great Parisian restaurants, and the food was simply divine.... More

Delicious food. This is a large restaurant in the 20th arrondisement that is popular with the locals. The menu is only in French, the staff does not speak English, and you won't find any tourists here. It seems only locals know about this treasure of a restaurant. Our family of 4 enjoyed everything we ordered - andouillette sausage, duck confit,... More

This out of the way restaurant in the 20th apartment (near metro Gambetta) was recommended by an ardent Paris fan and boy was he right. What is the light I refer to in the title ? Well up till my visit there I wanted my veal very well done etc (I know, many will cringe at this *sigh*) since I... More

We found this place through tripadvisor but we didn't enjoy our food that much. It could be the French cuisine but the sausage was really bad. The staff was really eager to help us and try to translate the menu

We are in Paris for a week, at the end of a 4-month trip around France. Staying in the Gambetta neighbourhood, which is great, colourful and vibrant with lots of cafe/bar/restaurants around. Last night we had a wonderful meal, super-rare steak, great frites, and the most awesome profiteroles later. The service is special; wait-staff are professionals; proud of their work... More

My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I enjoyed a great evening at this quaint typical French neighborhood bistro. My son-in-law loves very rare beef. His beef came out sizzling on a hot stone slab and continues to cook at the table. (Picture taken before he turned the steak.) Served with frites and a tomato. My husband and I had the mussels,... I love this place, every time I'm in paris I'll visit this place. Much because of the delicious Steak tartar that they make. But also because of the good service. If you want a typical parisan bisto where you can eat and drink well I definitly recommend this one. Monseiur Richard being the manager and a gentleman never seems to... More

Staying in Belleville / Pere Lachaise

Neighbourhood Profile
Belleville / Pere Lachaise
At the eastern edge of Paris lies Belleville / Père Lachaise, an understated wonderland of local treasures. Alongside the world-famous cemetery, family-owned delicatessens and cafés nestle between local stores and establishments. The richness of the population here has created a little Chinatown of Asian restaurants, and the area comes to life at night by a funky underground scene. Façades change from one street to another as one passes from white walled provincial homes to tall blocks and reconverted homes. The whole area is an inspirational mix of people from all corners of the world frequented by artists, students, immigrants, and Parisian families. Once home to supporters of the Paris commune, its rebellious nature is now offset by its rural charms.
