Visited this place on Saturday 1.4. with my mother. We had learned there would be music and singing. Little did we know that we would find ourselves in the middle of a "let-us-all-together-sing-old-french-songs-together-accompanied-by-wonderful-woman-on-accordion" evening 😀 Simply the place to visit if you look for service minded staff, nice food and the best french feeling!!

Entering the small restaurant is like making a time-travel in the Paris of the 40's and 50's: you imagine you can meet here Jean Gabin, sitting at a solitary table drinking a glass of red wine. Small tables, red and white checkered tablecloth, wooden chairs and traditional French imagery on the walls - trompe l'oeil of a Parisian street, posters... More

We made a trip to France for my husband's birthday. This was one of the many surprises I planned. It did not disappoint! A bar & restaurant with special themed night The food was fresh and very good (more bistro food vs. saucy Parisian food). The atmosphere was a mix of locals and visitors who came for a fun night.... A large group of us visits for a conference dinner event. The food was traditional French fare and tasty. The environment surrounding the restaurant was a little intimidating but there were great views of the Eiffel Tower on the walk in. The music was an acquired taste!

This place was great! The good was fine and pretty well priced and the service was very good and welcoming but the ambiance was fantastic! I went on a night that they had the accordion player with everyone in the restaurant singing and I ended up staying until closing time. If you are at all into the the "old Paris",... More

Having recently returned from a Euro holiday which included a couple of 'sejours' a Paris, I had the pleasure of visiting this unique 'Palais' on three occassions (it was close to my Hotel in the delightful Menilmontant quarter). One full Piaf night on a Tuesday in early June followed by another brief Piaf eve and Bastille night (14/7/16) Michel on... More

12 May.. It was a fun night, Riton was enjoyable, Food was quite good, the accordion player was great. But we didn't feel welcome there. I couldn't get the waiter or owner to make eye contact so we could have more wine. or any more food. Paid my bill and they never came back with change... (like 4 Euros...) Not... More

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday a show goes on. We went to chanson evening on Tuesdays, which was very good. Restaurant is small, informal and offering a small selection of traditional French food at a modest price. Particular suited for foreigners, since all sing-alongs are handed out in print.

When we were in Paris we wanted to listen to typical "chansons" and we chose to go to Le Vieux Belleville. We went on a Tuesday because it was an Edith Piaf night. I guess we made the best choise. It was very fun and entertaining. The food was delicious and the price was very reasonable. So if you visit... More

We came to that restaurant by chance as we were walking the surrounding area of Belleville. We passed by the restaurant. It didn't look like a traditional French bistro, and instead looked somewhat ordinary, buyit was full, and people were singing! We were pulled towards it and when we entered, the owner was kind enough to make room for us... More

Staying in Belleville / Pere Lachaise

Neighbourhood Profile
Belleville / Pere Lachaise
At the eastern edge of Paris lies Belleville / Père Lachaise, an understated wonderland of local treasures. Alongside the world-famous cemetery, family-owned delicatessens and cafés nestle between local stores and establishments. The richness of the population here has created a little Chinatown of Asian restaurants, and the area comes to life at night by a funky underground scene. Façades change from one street to another as one passes from white walled provincial homes to tall blocks and reconverted homes. The whole area is an inspirational mix of people from all corners of the world frequented by artists, students, immigrants, and Parisian families. Once home to supporters of the Paris commune, its rebellious nature is now offset by its rural charms.
