It is always difficult to write a less than stellar review to a family-run restaurant.
First the positives: the space is stunning. If you like art nouveau, go there just for that! The table setting and the dishes were also gorgeous. As for the food, it was very good but not great. I think the owners are trying too hard and should stop trying to create overly complex flavors.
My two complaints are these:
The tables at this restaurant are for two people each. We were four, and I had to contact the owner to make a reservation, which is fine. We were first served amazing freshly baked bread with whipped butter. It was a set of four rolls. It was so good, we inhaled it! Then we noticed that other tables, all for two, also received sets of four breads. We should have gotten two sets of four for the four of us.
I told the hostess/waitress/owner how amazing her bread was hoping she would get a hint. She just thanked me. My friend, then, just asked her point blank if we could have more.
She said No!!!! I mean! First, we should have had two sets, as the parties of two received the same amount, second, we asked for bread, not for some expensive food item!
The second point was almost comical. We were asked if we had any allergies. We didn't but my husband said he really hated peas. The hostess said he should eat them anyway, because they are good, and she only replaces foods you are allergic to. The day before, in a Michelin restaurant, my husband's peas were replaced with another appetizer on his request.
It was funny, because it looked like a mother telling her child to eat their peas. In the end, my husband did't eat his appetizer at all, and my friend ate his peas.
To tell the truth, this was my favorite dish of the evening, but if you don't like something, you aren't going to eat it and when you pay that much money for a meal, you should not be given the food you hate.
Anyways, even though I didn't totally loved all the food, I would have given the restaurant 5 stars if it weren't for these happenings.

We found this lovely restaurant by chance on a Monday evening when most of Avignon’s best restaurants are closed. We had the elegant dining room to ourselves and enjoyed every dish on the 6 course menu. The fusion of Peruvian & French flavours continued to intrigue and delight throughout the meal. The chef’s wife Patricia provided gracious service and knowledge about the wines of the region. We can’t wait to come back!

Restaurant Hiely Lucullus is an amazing gem which draws very little attention to itself, at street level, but is a must-do when visiting Avignon. Located just off the central square, the only thing drawing your attention to its existence is a menu in a display case adjacent to an unmarked door. When you climb the staircase you enter the dining room on the second floor with windows that open out onto the street below. Reservations are highly recommended.
We first came here 28 years ago, having first read about it in Peter Mayle's delightful book, Toujours Provence. Fifteen years ago Hiely changed owners and now is the domain of a lovely couple from Peru who have improved upon, as hard as that is to believe, the menu lovingly described in Mayle's book.
The fusion of cuisines, Peruvian and French, is a delightful melding of these two cultures providing an exquisite unmatched by any other meal we enjoyed on our entire trip through France.
All ingredients, save those from Peru, are sourced from within 125 km from Avignon. The sources of all the ingredients used are fully documented on the back of the menu. Everything is fresh, and locally grown or raised. Amazing.
Hiely Lucullus is a true gem which is easily missed unless you look for it. It doesn't send someone out on the sidewalk to lure you inside, as many street side cafes do, and it doesn't need to. It is a jewel to be discovered and savored in an atmosphere that is calm, intimate and completely focused on your enjoyment.
Make a reservation as soon as you arrive in Avignon as there is seating for only around couples and there is just one seating per evening. You will be amazed by their creativity and care in preparing and presenting each course.
bon appetit!

The food was a diverse range of French and Peruvian tastes, served with no rush over the evening by the wonderfully attentive husband and wife team. No problems serving me as a pescatarian despite my lack of helpfully notifying them beforehand (please do that if you come so they are aware!) and beautiful extra courses beyond the written menu. Very affordable as a long and luxorious meal out and much more relaxed that eating in the tourist places on the square. Would recommend!

First, this restaurant offers an art-deco experience, that put you in a special atmosphere. Then, taste from Peru enhance this excellent French cuisine. It was our third visit to this restaurant. Great service. We enjoyed the 'Châteauneuf-du-Pape' wine list : large choice, and very well priced compared to other restaurants. It was our third visit, and as usual a unique moment. Our favorite to date in Avignon.

Our dinner here was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Avignon & Provence. The food on the tasting menu was sublime, with such creative and unusual combinations of flavors & textures. The service was so friendly, and we felt the personal nature of the food as it combines the heritage of the chef and his lovely wife. During our trip to the area, we ate at several Michelin starred restaurants, but this place provided the best meal we had. Do not miss this restaurant.

Excellent food and service in unique environment. The chef was very accommodating to my fish allergy. We had a very enjoyable meal we’ll both remember for a long time to come. This is thoughtful, elevated dining at its best. We were pleasantly surprised, and you will be, too.

After reading the good reviews on Trip advisor we decided to book this restaurant and were not disappointed.
The food was an interesting and successful blend of French fine cooking with hints of Peruvian flavour.
The service was excellent and they kindly catered for my food intolerances.
We would definitely return on our next visit to Avignon.

Wow - run, don’t walk, to Hiély Lucullus. At the risk of sounding hyberbolic, everything about this place was incredible. We love Peruvian food, and the marriage with Provençal cuisine was creative, fun, and delicious. The host was friendly and engaging, and the chef prepared a

The 4-course lunch meal allows you to discover a cuisine full of flavors and aromas combining Provençal and Peruvian culture.
A magnificent setting and the delicious welcome of the hostess help to highlight the chef's cuisine. Cooking the scorpionfish just perfect as well as the lamb. The juices bring a touch of aromas of Peruvian and Provençal spices.
I highly recommend even if the first menu at 65 euros perhaps seems a little high in terms of price.

My wife and I ate there in the beginning of October and it was a completely unique and great experience. We ate the 9 course meal and each dish was gorgeously presented and expertly prepared. The chef is French and his wife (our server that night) is Peruvian. Which explains the food: Peruvian/French. It's not like anything you've had before and it's delicious. The setting is very nice, the service was excellent and it's recommended by the Michelin Guide for good reason.
Do not hesitate to go there!

We chose this restaurant after reading the glowing reviews on Trip...well everything is more than justified! In this historic Avignon restaurant which has kept its old-world decoration, the cuisine is inventive, modern, surprising and simply delicious! Patricia, alone in the dining room, lovingly introduces you to the cuisine prepared by her husband, a chef who has worked alongside big names like Troisgros, and who mixes the flavors of Peru and Provence. In addition, she will be able to help you choose and discover a wine that suits you, for us it was a simply sublime Cassis! In summary, everything has come together to make you have a memorable evening. In any case, we loved it and despite our visits to many Michelin-starred establishments, this experience will remain among the most breathtaking....from the first taste of crab cake, we knew that it was going to explode everywhere and bingo...fireworks for the taste buds from start to finish with surprises in each dish! Thank you Patricia for your sympathy and professionalism, we are changing the destination of our next trip.....it will be Peru Claro que Si!
So if you haven't understood it, go there with your eyes closed but your mouth wide open! Greetings

Restaurant located on the main artery of the center of Avignon (rue de la République). On the 1st floor of the building, restaurant room with chic and sober art deco atmosphere.
It is a couple of restaurateurs who manage the establishment with a masterful hand: the husband from Avignon in the kitchen and his wife of Peruvian origin in the dining room.
The marriage is also made on the plate where the flavors of Provence complement each other with Peruvian flavors.
The chef has a lot of talent, the combinations are subtle: grilled asparagus with notes of chocolate and sweet pepper... who would have thought it? And yet it “matches” wonderfully!
No false notes until dessert included!
We had an excellent, timeless time.
The question I ask myself: why is this restaurant not starred?
He totally deserves it
