We stopped at Le Cigalon during our tour of Marcel Pagnol sites with friends. One of his movies was filmed here and there are artifacts on the walls of Pagnol's films. The server was genial and the food was good. I enjoyed the plat du...pecheur and madame l'aioli. It is hard to imagine you are in a quartier of Marseille.More

We ordered one pizza Provencal and one chef salad. We got a salad which seemed to be like caesar and apart from that, it was awful in taste. I don't know you can make such a bad salad. The vegetables were not fresh, the chicken...had no taste and the sauce was probably the worst ever eaten in a chef or Caesar salad. Also the quantity was small. The pizza was a like a supermarket one, I am sure it was frozen and added a little bit of tomato sauce, which was the only tasty flavor of the pizza. We paid 24 euros for a salad, a pizza and a coke.More

Really nice location but unfortunately the food was not good. I had a pizza and they piled that much cheese on it it went all soggy. The chips were so greasy even just picking them up left my fingers covered in grease. My boyfriend had...fish which was also not nice :-(More

A good place to have Provençal specialties, served in generous portions, in a quiet square away from auto traffic. We had lunch, taking their modestly priced menu at 9.50 €, which provides a main dish and an espresso. I had the daube Provençale (beef cooked...with red wine, savory vegetables and herbs), and Frances enjoyed the légumes farcis (stuffed vegetables). A quarter-litre carafe of wine at 3 € completed the lunch. They also offer a wide range of French dishes, with emphasis on the Provençal theme.More

We chose this restaurant from among the many in this square because of its salad menu which seemed reasonable at 9€80 including a dessert. The salad was mediocre, a pile of lettuce (not fresh) with processed ham plonked on top for one, and disappointing nicoise...salad (no olives) for the other. Given the cheap price, we didn't complain. However, when we were charged 4€ for a dessert, I queried the bill. It was quickly rectified, without any apology at all (almost the opposite). The bill wasnt complicated, should only have had 2 items on it. I wonder how many other tourists might have been caught out.. One to avoid.More

I think they heated them in the microwave. They were overdone, tough and sandy. Do not recommend. Maybe the rest of what they serve is better but i doubt it. Service not particularly friendly either. I watched them relocate all customers who wanted something too...eat to a table convenient for them. Very strange.More

We had a wonderful meal at le Cigalon. In the beautiful village of La Traille. The chef is Escoffier trained and it is really evident in the food! The service is friendly and very efficient and the food plentiful, very very tasty and beautifully presented....Worth climbing up the hill before, enjoying the amazing views and feeling like you have earned this wonderful food. Can I give it 6 stars????More

I took a tour group doing a literary tour of the South of France to this restaurant because of the connections with writer and film director Marcel Pagnol's film Le Cigalon. It is a fabulous restaurant with lovely views and lots of atmosphere. We had...a delicious meal, with interesting Provencal starters, and then a fabulous lamb tatin. The service was excellent and friendly. It was a special and memorable visit for my tour group and I will take future groups there. The only disappointment was that the beautiful Maine Coon cat which I saw the previous year did not put in an appearance this time. Many thanks.More

Lunch here on the terrace deserves time. It is a warm spot with fabulous views and the food matches the setting, delicious and local but I must say the portions are very generous, almost too generous. The team at the restaurant which is in fact...some way out of Marseilles, go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Service is friendly and the flavours are superb but I just felt over fed at the end. Of course, I could have left some on my plate but it just tasted too good for that!More

This restaurant is actually 18km outside of Marseille in the town of La Treille. Book in advance to get a nice table and be aware that the parking and access into La Treille is severely limited. After a failed attempt in town we had to...park at least 500m down the road and walk back up (quite steep) into town so leave yourself enough time to account for this. However, you can drop off aged relatives, etc right in front of the restaurant before you park your car. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day to enjoy our corner deck outdoor table. The service was great. We both ordered 34E 3 course menus and were started with amuse bouche of toasts with a very good olive tapenade. We both started with an Asiette of ratatouille, courgette farci, mussels in delicious cream & pesto sauce, and baba ghanoush - all delicious and nicely presented. I had cod with a topping of chickpea and rice - delicious. My husband had steak with wine & shallots sauce & potatoes - excellent. Both came with nicely presented and tasty vegetable sides. For dessert my husband had a wonderful tartlet de pomme and I was tempted away from my first choice of 'poached pear in saffron with acidic fruits' by the waiters suggestion of 'brioche with 2 chocolates'. Big mistake - the brioche was old and hard so I sent it back - amazing for me! And they took it back - even more amazing in France!! They replaced it with the poached pear and it was delicious (but really they should not have served the brioche in the first place - so no 5 star here). We also received a free digestive de maison by showing our current Routard guide book. Come here for a relaxing 2-3 hour lunch on a beautiful day - you won't be disappointed.More
