We were warmly welcomed into a very interesting dining room, decorated with a lot of wood, fabrics, etc. The menu was very unique. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The menu was almost devoted to different exotic meat options. My dining partner and I agreed to try share different plates. I was very happy to see that most of... More

Nice and cosy place with a lot of African atmosphere. The food is very good and authentic African. Though not the best African food I ever had. I think the place is a bit pricy (there appear to be a lot of people working there, maybe they all need to be paid!). I gave it 5 stars nevertheless, though I... More

The place was comfy and the food was great ! What a pleasure to eat real south african dishes like bobotie. It made the stay in Berlin truly better when you have an experience like this in a restaurant. The only bad point : when we were eating, we were seeing people cleaning the bathroom. It made the atmosphere less... More

This place is just amazing. As soon as we entered, we felt extremely welcomed and pleasant. The staff is really nice, and we were seated instantly. The decor is amazing, every bit of the place is carefuly thought out, the lights are dim, and the music is authentic. The waitresses are really nice, and really do their best at explaining... More

This is in a neighborhood full of ethic eateries in Prenzlauer Berg and within easy walking distance of the u_Bahn station. The atmosphere is attractive with dimly lit table and artistic touches of African decor. The service is good and the food also good. I had the vegetarian sampler which was more than enough for one person.

We had seen the ad for this restaurant in the Ubahn station and decided to see what African food was like in Berlin. We found this charming little place on a street filled with ethnic cafes from every culture imaginable, a good sign! The menu is extensive and presented in a bind wooden book covered with animal skins, a nice... More

Very kind staff in a very warm interior design, dark wood, red and orange fabrics, and outdoor seating option when weather allows too. Massai offers a very special kind of a menu, it is expensive per Berlin prices but it is not your everyday place to eat anyway. It is a perfect place for a fun dinner with friends. A... More

We had a great time in Massai restaurant and enjoyed very much the food. The service was "africanish", we had to wait a bit longer but the food itself satisfied us. Recommended!!

A friend chose this place but had not told anyone what it was about. It is well decorated and very cozy. Table wear also uses typical themes. Everything was amazing, from the appetizers, welcome drink, going through different meat experiences. We got a selection of zebra, camel and antelope. Not sure if I would taste it knowing in advance, but... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
