This place is right on the River Spree and the Alexander Platz side of the river. It is in fact a micro brewery and it's beer both dark and light is a real treat for beer drinkers. The staff are keen to help and make you feel welcome and speak quite good English. The food is basic traditional German food... More

The most unhelpful service ever. One person in our group was allergic to garlic and they couldn't guarantee a single dish wouldn't 't have it

Recommended by Courtyard Marriott staff and in the old St Nikolai quarter, this is a typical German bierstube. Their own beer, pale or dark, is excellent, and their bratwurst is as good as any. Well patronised by locals which is as good a recommendation as you can have.

On a beautiful summery evening, we stumbled upon this sweet little biergarten courtyard surrounded a well-preserved historical house adored with beautiful flowers, and a perfect location along the Spree River (great for watching the bazillion cruiseships). The menu features typical hearty German fare and some seriously potent (and tasty) homebrewed beer (dark and light). We sampled the fresh Matjes filet... More

Had dinner here and enjoyed every bit of it. We had potato soup with sausages (a bit spicy, but tasty), pork leg (huge and also tasty) and the apple strudel (not great, but well presented and combined with fruits and vanilla sauce). Service was very quick and waiters very friendly and helpful. This is by far one of the best... More

My girlfriend and I came her for a few beers. The choice is light or dark and having tried both I'd definitely say go for the dark because it's amazing. We also got some Laugenbretzel which were enormous warm and brilliant with mustard. Didn't have any of the other food there but by nosing at other people's food the portions... More

Beer was fine and that's it... waitress was bored and not friendly!! We ordered duck and received chicken instead ! Even if I complained, the waitress never admitted that this was chicken... who can't distinguish duck from chicken... it is not the same AT ALL!!! Won't go back... ever!

The staff are very welcoming. The beer is made in house and is delicious. The food is hearty and delicious. I had the goulash with dumplings and red cabbage which was out standing. My husband had the crispy pork knuckle with sauerkraut and potatoes which was brilliant. Well worth a visit.

This is local German cuisine at its best and is about a 10 minute walk from Alexanderplatz station, I came here on a Saturday and made a reservation beforehand which is advisable, the food is just amazing here and I had a Schnitzel which was wonderful, prices here are very good and service was quick and efficient, the waiter gave... Good location near our hotel. We had a schnitzel with potato salad & a schnitzel with veggies. Not normally beer drinkers but we both enjoyed the beer here. Pretty reasonably priced, considering we are converting AUD$.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
