Was recommended by doorman at Hilton. It was very close and convienent. Were not disappointed!! Went back again on our third night. Classic regional food - suberb Sauerbraten, vienershintzel and goulash. Apple strudel was exceptional and a definite must have!

A 'classic' German eating experience, with very good schnitzel. The Kaiserschmarrn (traditional gooey apple dessert) was a bit over-the-top, and the prices are on the high side, but if you want to savour old-fashioned cooking in a restaurant with atmosphere and a good wine list, this is the place to come.

On final night of 1st visit to Berlin and with an early flight next morning we were looking for a good restaurant near our hotel. This was mentioned in our guide book so thought we'd try but with no reservation. Lucky to get a table on a Saturday night without the staff making the kind of song & dance as... More

Spotted L & W as we walked back to our hotel one night. Unstuffy with buzzing (Parisienne Bistro like) atmosphere, looked like our sort of place. German menu with classic dishes which we wanted to try whilst on holiday in Berlin. Our concierge booked for following evening. We arrived at the precise time of our booking. They were overfull but... More

I was disappointed in the Wiener schnitzel. No flavor, tough meat and clearly reheated. The potato and cucumber salad was delicious, however. My spouse had sauerbraten and thought it was very good. Our waiter was a little too impressed with himself. Annoying. Much better Wiener Schnitzel at Borchart.

Fantastic food. Ambience is open and not too noisy. Fantastic place. Creamy Veal Goulash was excellent.

Located at the magnificent Gendarmenmarkt the restaurant itself has a classy ambiance. Reservations are recommended. Service was very helpful and friendly, - no problem with English. We had white asparagus, currently in season, with fresh potatoes and the Wienerschnitzel. The schnitzel was big (I had better). The white house wine, a Riesling, was perfect with the asparagus.

We had a wonderful dinner here. Wonderful for typical German food. Service was excellent, our waitress gave us good ordering advice and was just lots of fun. Be sure to have a reservation, this seemed to be a very popular restaurant, not only with tourists but with locals.

The ideal location of this restaurant on a busy Berlin corner in Town Center and across the street from the famed Gendarmenmarkt made it appealing. We walked from Hotel Berlin passed this place at lunch and the scene inside was inviting with large business groups fully engaged in conversation and their meal. We made our way by the front door... Our meals we describe as traditional, regional cuisine with Austrian Wiener Schnitzel, which was hailed in the New York Times as "the best steak outside of Vienna." the Berlin style sauerbraten won first Prize in the German Sauerbraten Competition. Moreover, traditional dishes and recipes refined and taken up in part inspired the modern kitchen.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
