My husband wanted a traditional German meal, we literally saw this restaurant as we were making our way back after a day walking about Berlin. The front looks like a traditional place, so we checked the menu. Arriving on a Saturday at 6pm, we thought we'd have a beer there first to find the place packed with early German eaters.... More

Very nice bar / restaurant in Kreuzberg, authentic place, a bit of an institution really, with warm interior and friendly staff. We went in bog time and ordered their meat balls (Buletten), the Schmalzbrot and the roasted chicken. It was all excellent. Wash it down with local Pilsener beer and a German grain Schnaps for the full experience.

Had dinner here last week and we were all very much satisfied. Whether you go for the Pork shank or any of the sausage dishes, you won't be disappointed. Service is very friendly and the ambiance is casual and relaxed. Would definitely go there again.

Inside the modest-looking entrance is a charming dark wood interior. The staff and most welcoming and very helpful. English language menus are displayed outside and on the tables. Prices are reasonable. The restaurant was quiet on this Sunday evening. There is a variety of German beers, of which I particularly recommend the Schultheiss! I ordered a pork knuckle. To be... We found this restaurants by wandering around the area and got exactly what we were looking for: good rustic German food, good beers, our waitress was welcoming and super friendly and gave us advice on Berlin! We had an assortment of small sausages, a kind of burger and a herring salad which were very good! Other customers had a huuuuuge... More

We went to this restaurant based on trip advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We were met by the very friendly staff who helped us with drink suggestions. The food was plentiful and really yummy. I would recommend the crispy chicken, pork knuckle and baked potato. I would definitely return to this restaurant.

I was looking for some traditional German food at a reasonable price and my tour guide recommended this place. I would’ve ordered one of the specialty dishes (1/2 chicken, or pork knuckle), but I had already had both of those the previous two nights at other places, so I decided to go with the Blutwurst as something a bit different.... Stopped here for dinner with two co-workers on the last night of a business trip. Traditional German food, but don't expect schnitzel or spaetzle--more like sausages, potato salad, and sauerkraut. I had the mini bratwursts with sauerkraut, and a baked potato with sour cream. So delicious! A hugely filling meal, plus two beers, for well under 20 EUR. Brilliant. And... More

After being given the bum's rush at the Henne round the corner (despite a booking), we tried here and were given a fantastic experience - friendly, good food, well-stocked bar and friendly service. Highly recommended!

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
