Very busy and atmospheric but also thick with smoke so probably only enjoyable for smokers or those with high smoke tolerance.

The only drawback of this place, for me, is that smoking is allowed. In the summer you can sit outdoors and it is fantastic. In the winter, though, you sit inside -beautiful, stylish place, btw- but it gets really smokey. It is part of their concept, and somehow fits in this old style cocktail bar, but i still find it... classy bar with a classy interior and an impressive wooden bar - with a little sign marking the seat of one of the regular guests and neighbor. I love places like that :) good selection of different liquors and the staff is attentive and obliging enough to offer you to sample before you order. really friendly and knowledgable. there's one... On a quiet Sunday evening, it was nice to have a conversation with the initially taciturn bar keeper and enjoy an expertly made Bourbon Smash at the classic bar. Berlin has plenty of bars which are more theatrical, sometimes it's nice to see value substance valued over style. I still like the Galander Charlottenburg a little more. The cocktail menu... More

The staff is nice and knows its stuff. You can order from the menu or tell the waiter what you usually drink to get just that or try something new. If in doubt, the barman will even call colleagues to make sure you'll love your drink.

Galander bar is an excellent place with good mood, fabulous bar, delicious wines, crunchy corn seeds and extraordinary lustre in the second room.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
