It's always a pleasure to be at Zauberlehrling (The sorcerers apprentice). One of the best selections of German wines in town combined with amazing dishes make this restaurant a great experience. The sommelier has a vast knowledge, so tell him what direction you would like to go and he will find the right stuff in his cellar. All the ingredients... More

Location: Just a couple hundred meters from the North eastern shore of the Maschsee, well worth the walk from the City Center. Parking can be tricky but at the Maschsee you should be able to find place. Food: A lot of recipes are Standard fare in the better cuisine but done in a novel and very exciting way. Just give... Had a large group 5 course dinner, and they handled it beautifully! Food was excellent, and the wine selection and the cellar is amazing. Food was featuring local items and was not what you would expect for German cuisine. Items were very light and flavorful. Service was amazing, they kept a group of 20 not needing a thing. Everything was... More

I had a meeting with my American guests in the Zauberlehrling. One of my guests was vegetarian. All of us loved the wonderful meal with the good vine recommendation of the staff. Meeting was pretty good. Thanks for the evening.

The dining area is one large space with an impressive bar, an open kitchen, nice furnishings, beautifully set tables, and lovely lighting--all in all a very nice visual atmosphere. The bread and butter were tasty, particularly the sesame butter. As an appetizer, I ordered the Ox tartar, with giant capers and a perfectly poached egg on top. It was splendid,... More

I had such hig hopes for this place, having walked by on a few occasions and heard that they have an extensive wine-list. What a disappointment. First, I waited and waited to order my wine, the others had arrived earlier and were happily drinking (after waiting for me for ten minutes, they gave up and drank. I still hadn't managed... More

Not your typical german restaurant, more on the eclectic side with some german inspiration. Small place and very expensive but really worth it. The wine selection is really good and extensive, the cellar downstairs is an experience itself. Food was really good, some of the portions are small but well worth it.

our fifth visit now, again (unfortunately, still searching for nice restaurants in hannover!) same impression re the overall rating. appetizer (lobster with mango creme) very nice, ambitious (i really liked the wasabi sorbet) but quite expensive: 18€. main course: dry aged beef: aged to perfection, but microscopic portion for 27€, side dishes a little boring (more or less the same... I won't call this a dinner. This is an experience! This is a small place. only 40 tables. Make reservations. We did not but they were kind enough to fit us in. Small menu.No worries you can't go wrong. Lars was our waiter and Martina was also there to help fit us in. Lars made our whole night. It goes... More

Really nicely presented food that tasted great, amazing wine selection (German wines), and the wait staff were really friendly and polite. And as a bonus were totally fine with English speaking visitors. I was there on a date, and aside being a little brightly lit it was perfect for this.
