What I really enjoyed at this place was the service: our waitress was really nice, explained everything thoroughly and was extremely polite and friendly. As for the food... it was a disappointment to some extent. Very strange mise-en-bouche: some smelly fish with pumpkin - definitely...fish was not fresh. The starter, octopus, was OK, but with so much pepper and spice it was hard to identify whether it was fresh or not, most likely not. Main course, lamb, was too salty and rather mediocre if you ask me. The food I enjoyed most at this restaurant was the bread. Can’t say the restaurant is particularly bad, if you’re really hungry then it’ll do, but if you want to derive some pleasure from food - just skip it.More

Tucked away off a busy street and some way south of the centre of Essen this is a small restaurant with a charming chef patron. The large array of empty bottles of top wine indicate he is a serious enthusiast and the list is certainly...a reflection of that. We chose a delicious Spatburgunder from a little known producer which at 38 Euros was a good deal. The menu is on a blackboard as well as place cards, the choice is limited unsurprisingly in a small establishment but everything we had was very tasty, well cooked and presented. There was one person serving in the restaurant and she was very friendly, spoke excellent English and we were well looked after. It is not cheap but very close to Michelin Star standard and will be on our list when we next return to Essen.More

On entry we were told 'we close at 3pm'. As it was only 2pm we didn't worry about this. However, as we finished our main and only course, the waitress came and reminded us that 'we close at 3pm'. It was now 2.50 so we...left without coffee. Good cooking but what a strange welcome.More

A small restaurant, possibly only 6 or 7 tables without the terrace, and set well away for the city's heart, but still a real find and worth looking for. You really feel the personal service here, with a friendly waitress and the chef close at...hand you can easily find advice on the small but exquisite menu. I had never even heard of maultasche before, it was excellent (German Pasta!). The duck main course was perfectly cooked. Wine here is very much part of the package and we were guided to an excellent bottle.. Not cheap at €285 for 4 without dessert, but this is one of the restaurants I would like to come back to again and again.More

I was invited by a friend to help celebrate an anniversary. She chose this restaurant as she wanted to go somewhere special and treat us to the kind of food we wouldn't necessarily order on a regular basis. We were not disappointed! The restaurant is...not cheap but the quality was excellent and all dishes were beautifully presented. I'd say it was close to Michelin star food I've eaten. The menu changes daily so it's kept very small but as everything sounded interesting and delicious it was still hard to choose. The decor was nice and the waitress was very relaxed and friendly. Despite the high price and style of cuisine, it's not posh and certainly not pretentious.More

Better don't expect a great selection. But what you get is fresh and good. No wine menu, but a great wine cellar. And still not too expensive. Only few seats, so better make a reservation.

Nice and quiet location with delicious french cuisine. It always quiet difficult to find something similar in Germany. So you can enjoy a peace of France right here;)
