As visitors to Leipzig, our friends wanted us to experience traditional Saschen food. The service was great. The waitress brought us English menus and spoke English. I ended up ordering soup, as most of the menu was heavy fatty foods. It was also a bit...more expensive since it was an historic restaurant. 4 out of 6 in our group loved their meals.More

I went in December with my family, and, because we do not speak german, we asked if they had an english menu. The staff, being extremely rude, said they did not have english menus because of the christmas holidays, which, off course, does not make...sense. In addition, they did not have duck or pork because it was christmas. The waiters were very rude and it seemed that they hated that we did not speak german.More

Went here because of the history of the place, which apparently is only of the oldest restaurants in the city. Was let down by the incredibly slow service and lack of interest in serving us. We were planning to eat here, but after waiting 30...minutes for drinks, we decided to go elsewhereMore

Was refused a glass of tap water after ordering cake and coffee on a hot summer’s day. The waiter was nice but apparently instructed to do so by management. If you think you can make an extra €2 charging people for water you certainly won’t...do so in the long run, because we (locals) won’t be back and will tell others too avoid this place. Coffee was awful, too. Plenty of other places who don’t charge for water like Spizz a couple of places down, go there instead!More

Travelling solo, and not speaking German, this was the only restaurant in Leipzig where the lovely women who were waitressing made me actually feel welcome & comfortable. They were kind, but also excellent at their job. Couple this with homely German-style food, and it's a...great place for a nice dinner.More

We had been recommended to try out the food in this historical atmospheric Altbau building with masonry walls and beamed ceilings. Although it is in a touristy area, it is not geared to tourists as they offer typical German Saschen classic dishes and even old...Eastern-bloc ( ie. Russian) dishes, such as Schweinshaxe ( pork knuckle) and Sauerbraten ( pot roast: €15.80). Everything seems to be served with either fried potatoes, potato dumplings or noodles. Salad is €13. There is very little vegetarian choice. We decided to try the Sauerbraten but it arrived only half warm, greasy and as tough as old boots. We asked them to heat it up, waited 20 minutes, and the portion returned smaller!! The neighbouring table had ordered Zander fish ( pike-perch) at €17.80 and it was tiny on the plate. Although the service was courteous the food was priced and extremely disappointing and we would not go back. Perhaps we were unlucky... It is open everyday from 11.30am until 12 midnight. They accept cards, but no wifi.More

Could not be wrong. We treated ourselves to the finest food. The waitress was helpful in taking our order. Service was as one would expect in a state university.

Had a day where I was really hungry and looking forward to some nice wholesome German food. I ordered the Eisbein, quite a bit of yucky fat on it and then just nothing that made it nice, bland potatoes and lack lustre sauerkraut. Will definitely...not visit again. Service could be improved too.More

It's very traditional and nice in environment. The pork knuckle is good, but the others are just average. The service can be improved too.

Visited the Zill's Tunnel in my Home Town of Leipzig three times in the last 10 years. Wonderful historic building, the song "Mein Vater war ein Wandersman" was written here by the composer. Right across the little square and the historic fountain of the oldest...Coffee Shop in Europe from the Middle Ages the "CoffeBaum", great pastries and atmosphere galore. Can walk to all the historic sites, Johann Sebastian Bach-Thomas Kirche, Auerbachs Keller (Faust) and so much more. Now retired, i must go back soon & stay in Leipzig much longer next time..cannot wait, greetings to the Geyer Family, the outstanding & ever so gracious Managers. ingridmancini3@gmail.com in S.D.
