This place is a victim of its popularity. The food is good; their wine is fine. The serious overcrowding within makes for a less-than-optimal experience, however.

I went to Gambara twice (this year and four years ago). The prices of the tapas and wines became much higher than for years ago. I was disappointed that there wasn't huevas de bacalaos. Was it because of season ? (I went in March four years ago. ) Instead of huevas de bacilaos, I ate the mix of mushrooms that... More

This place makes it to the top of our list in San Seb! The food is a bit pricier than the other bars, but it is worth it! Do not miss!

we had both the highly recommended plates of the mushrooms and the spider crab tart. the tart didn't blow my mind, but the mushrooms are delicious! i would happily pay 19 euro for them again. on another visit, we had the specialty local peppers which were good, but to be honest tasted very much like shishitos to me. one of... I have been at Gambara dozens of times, to have a drink and a mushroom tapa or at the tiny restaurant which offers basque delicacies. Food quality is very good, their tapas rank among the best. However the bar is always crowded and there is little space to enjoy. You need to fight with your elbows to get a spot... More

We visited Ganbara several times over our stay after a recommendation by Jose Pazarro. The bar can be quite manic, but there is plenty of staff on hand. Contrary to some reviews we found the staff friendly, and couldn't work out how they kept tabs on everyone's bill especially as we moved around. The food was excellent, especially the mushrooms... As a vegetarian, Ganbara was one of the best places we visited. The mixed mushrooms are delicious, as are the peppers and fried asparagus. Definitely worth a visit!

In the Old Town you are spoilt for choice. Pintxos bars abound. Ganbara is one of the special ones. We shared the most divinely and delicately seasoned plate of anchovies. I watched whilst Snuff Minor devoured a plate of beautifully sliced mushrooms topped with an egg. Chorizo sausage rolls (description again doesn't do them justice) were DIVINE! Add Ganbara to... Oh good god, please come here and get the mixed mushrooms. Add foie gras, even if it's not a thing you eat. We are obsessed. I came here 5 years ago and dreamed about it until we came back just now! Didn't disappoint! Side note: I've eaten nothing else from here.

Fun, lively energy. Good, classic tapas, with little creativity, but all done just right. Friendly service. A must do on the tapas circuit!
