You never know what you're going to get in Barcelona... this was right across the street from my hotel and I chose it only for convenience. It was very busy with the locals and the food was very good. I wouldn't necessarily seek it out, but it was a solid meal.

We came for dinner here after struggling to find some tapas places local to our hotel (U232). The food was ok, without being standout. My boyfriend doesn't eat fish, so it limits us. We had padron peppers, patatas bravas, croquettes (we ordered chicken & spinach/cheese - but just got double chicken), black pudding, chorizo...and we thought we had ordered a... More

I was very heartily welcomed at this place and it was great hanging out here with colleagues and business partners in an easy going environment with great food, beer and wine while talking and watching football....

We visited twice and it was excellent! It was full of local people enjoying really fresh home cooked food. Our favourite place to eat of our trip.

Ate here during a weekend break in Barcelona. We stayed in the Room Mate Emma hotel and the great reviews and proximity to our hotel prompted us to eat at Bodega Joan. The Bodega has a very local feel, but still caters to tourists with menus in different languages. Staff were incredibly friendly and the many locals there for drinks... More

We went there for breakfast & an evening meal. I can say both were superb. The atmosphere is friendly & the pricing is reasonable. Breakfast was Serrano ham over eggs & chips. It was gorgeous. We went for Paella for the evening meal which again was superb, my only gripe was it was so nice I could of had more.

Bodega Joan is a typical restaurant of tapas located in the center of Barcelona. We come her with my family and we ate some tapas like german salad, chipirones (grilled squids), and iberian ham, which were good. Moreover, we drank a craft beer. It is a very good place to see football games while you dinner. In fact, it is... More

Opened since July 1, 1942, Bodega Joan is one of the oldest restaurants in Barcelona and always has belonged to the same family. Joan's grandfather, actual director of the local, was the founder, and since then,it passed from father to son until today. Specialists in Spanish food and catalan food. Here you will find the true experience of a catalan restaurant bar, where we support the FC Barcelona with pasion and where the movement of people and joy are our dishes every day.

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
