This restaurant is the oldest is Barcelona and although nowadays is basically only visited by tourist, you have to visit it. However, you MUST make reservations well in advance. The cuisine is traditional Catalonian very well prepared although on the small size. The service is... well the best you can expect from a tourist restaurant. Have some wine and take... More

We called ahead from the UK but they had no record of our booking. The person managing the bookings was rude and dismissive, stuck us upstairs - even though there was room downstairs (and upstairs is like some hinterland graveyard) - no atmosphere, rubbish service, characterless waiters, even worse food - like the worst canteen food. Needs decorating, new staff,... More

This is not a restaurant for foodies, looking for 'Masterchef', but if you fancy a straightforward meal, like your granny used cook, then give it a try! I picked up the recommendation from a guide book, whilst looking for a typical Catalan restaurant. Being close by, I called in to make a reservation, and was immediately warmed by its homely... We had previously eaten at 4 Gats so it was interesting to compare these two venerable restaurants. Whereas the 4 gats has a similarly "old fashioned" presentation it had live music which created a fantastic atmosphere and made for a brilliant evening. On the other hand, Can Culerettes is a much more sombre environment. The food though is a different... More

Sadly a restaurant relying on its history of being the oldest in Barcelona. Worn and outdated surroundings (not rustic), waiters and waitresses with no spark, bright lights and no atmosphere whatsoever. Poor quality food; Monkfish with tinned (!) potatoes and a cod fish in creamy/fatty sauce. Should have trusted our gut instinct to leave prior to ordering! Cheap but far... More

Traditional restaurant relying on its laurels. Poor quality products served in a dated setting which if nostalgic for some, will simply appear to be in dire need of an upgrade to others. Tasty melon served with lacklustre fatty "Iberic" ham; frozen salmon steaks overcooked in cheap olive oil and lazy, tomato-topped bread rolls; again tasteless with little effort to serve... More

Vintage place popular among local seniors. We went there with the idea of having a menu, yet when I saw some of the dishes in the other tables we preferred go for La Carta. Too oily and “traditional” for my mood that day. The “reef and beff” paella was good enough and one ration is enough for two people. The... More

It's old school, classic Catalan cuisine. If you like the classics, eat here. If you don't want to eat like they did 200 years ago, keep walking. The first time I visited this restaurant was over 40 years ago, it's still the same, owned by the same family, not much has changed, and that's part of the charm of a... More

Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighbourhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.
