Tiny, backstreet French style bar that has become quite infamous for....well to put it politely, for being a bit shabby but also for its live music and for serving Pastis! It is crowded when there are about a dozen people in there. It was opened in 1947 and I absolutely believe that it has not changed much, if at all.... More

In a small little alley a small little bar with live music, absint in the glasses and far away from the hype and hipster world. Spanish, friendly and a must, just 50 meters from Rambla.

We had a jolly time at Bar Pastis. It was not yet busy so not crowded, though you can see it would not take many bodies to create a crowd in this tiny French-inspired bar. Yet live music goes on here, locals and tourists rub elbows here, and history is dripping from every pore of the establishment. Decades-old tchotchkes, seriously-patina'd... More

I first went to Bar Pastis back in the 80`s when I lived in Barcelona. You walked down the Ramblas, turned right at the sex shop, walked passed the transvestite prostitutes and down a dark narrow street to get there. Now after the gentrification of the whole area the sex shop and prostitutes have gone and between the Ramblas and... More

We went in and before we even had time to decide if we liked the place the person behind the bar asked two or three time what we were going to drink. We asked for a moment, as you do in places run by normal humans, but this man said that was not possible. So we just left. This person... More

My husband was so excited to go here! Very little, very neat.....every little corner had bric-a-brac galore. Definitely an interesting place to see.

We went to Pastis to listen to some live music and to meet with friends. When we got to the place, the friends still were not there so we decided to wait. A man (someone from the staff?) came up to us asking in spanish if we want to drink something. We said "not yet, later" ,to what he opened... More

Visited the small bar on a Thursday night. We knew before that there will be jazz. At 9 only a few people were in, but at 10 it was full and a swing trio on the tiny stage. Atmosphere was good, music ok and the staff friendly. I.ll be back!

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
