I have been using this delightful little local pub for years. The staff are always welcoming, Charlotte looking after me today made time to engage in conversation, James the landlord always makes all his guests welcome. It has a fantastic choice of real ales changed...regularly and are always in top condition. A must for any beer lover and those looking for an authentic, friendly English local pub.More

Great friendly local pub. Always excellent food with a varied selection of beers. Wide age range of customers but everyone made welcome by James and his team. Highly recommended if visiting the area.

I have drunk at the happy for 33 years and is my most favourite pub I drink in. The pub landlord sells great food and the drinks are excellent. Combine that with friendly locals and a warm welcome, its a terrific pub to drink in...for regulars and families.More

We were recommended The Happy Man by local friends for a Sunday lunch after a walk around Savill Garden. What a gem of a find! A real home cooked style roast beef dinner with plenty of veg and gravy to die for. Our children had...child portions of lamb and chicken which were also huge. We ended up engaging with the kind locals and had a lovely afternoon. Will definitely re visit.More

I have been eating and drinking in this pub for many years, staff are always friendly and welcoming. Menu changes a few times a year to add variety. I have entertained many work colleagues here all want to come back on the next visit, weather...for food or just a drink.More

The happy man is a truly wonderful place; proper community spirit, a really supportive atmosphere and just an all round wonderful place to be. The staff are friendly and soon become real friends, the locals will go out of their way to help you out...and the food just keeps getting better and better! James did an incredible job keeping us all going through 2020 while refurbing the pub, and its even more of a wonderful place to be. This has been my local and my go to for 10 years, and the last 5 under James Hook's ownership have been the best.More

Lovely refurbished, family friendly pub, with such a relaxed friendly atmosphere, always a new local to chat to, interesting history as the pub has passed through the generations, with a good balance of students and locals. And the Fish & Chips was amazing!

Genuinely the best pub in Englefield Green. James and the bar and kitchen staff are always incredibly friendly and kind, putting an admirable amount of effort into cultivating a friendly local community. The food here is some of the tastiest with great variety and a...changing seasonal menu keeping everything fresh and exciting but still comforting and homely. The Happy Man supports locals and students alike, sponsoring some RHUL societies and regularly welcoming student groups in to host their socials or events at the pub. As a CAMRA recognised pub and previous CAMRA Pub of the Year, the dedication to real ales is hugely appreciated, there is always a variety of ales across four taps with locals favourites being taken into consideration every time for what stays on. I genuinely could not choose a better place to spend a good chunk of my time, as a student, a society member and leader, a local, and a friend, my university experience and life in the green would not be the same without The Happy Man.More

This is now my favourite place, a warm welcoming atmosphere every time you come in, the food is outstanding and the staff are always friendly and ready for a chat, previous reviews seem to be written by an extremely bitter local who is banned from...99% of pubs on the green, for being extremely hands on with young bar staff, and forcing his extreme beliefs on anyone that will listen, I have as a woman of colour drink in this pub with no fear of racism and have always been made to feel welcome! During hard times James and his staff have delivered food and meals to the elderly and vulnerable, making sure that people are not left lonely and hungry during a pandemic, What an amazing place this pub is, a true village gem with the best happy man at the helm !!! Go get your roast dinners, you won’t be sorry !More

I’m assuming all the students who gather out back of this dump are studying catering - can’t think of another reason why there’s so much white powder flying about. Is it baking powder, flour or something else? Visitors are greeted by the sight of a...pink eyed alcoholic sitting at the bar all day and night- the manager is happy to see this moron drink himself to death and continue to take his money. Never seen him take keys off any off his regulars when they are clearly well over the limit, putting local residents in danger when they drive away. Any foreign student is exposed to the racist and racist comments from the regulars - what an welcome to the Uk they get, Avoid this dump like the plague.More
