We sat in the restaurant across the road, the food is still cooked in the original kitchen & run across to the tables. We had the famous gambas but much preferred the garlic shrimps which we divine with lots of delicious sauce. Our waiter recommended...More

Had a great time here on two occasions during our visit to Madrid. Standing room only the first time with lots of music and a fun atmosphere. Slightly quieter the second with a very friendly staff. Lots of garlic shrimp, olives, cheeses and wine that...More

This place is fun, intimately narrow and has great Tapas. My favorite tapa at this place Gambas al ajillo. Quick service, friendly staff, and popular after 7:00pm. Expect a long wait if you get there after 7:00pm. Steps away from the Velazquez Mertro stop. If...More

Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street
performers, colorful lights, window shopping,
restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and
churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a
collection of plazas interconnected by a network of
side streets. Some of these side streets are wide
pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so
it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as

No, at all. I don't think they accept reservations anyway. In the worst case, you can always go to other locations which are very close - around 2 minutes by walk.

La Casa del Abuelo is one of the Tapas Bars that you can't miss if you visit Madrid. This house is more than 100 years old and it's one of the most representative Taverns in Madrid. Specialities are shrimps in all of its varieties: grilled, with coarse salt and looking for the prefect cooking point and garlic shrimps, served in our terracotta casseroles with virgin olive oil, garlic and parsley.
The tradition is to eat the shrimps with the red sweet wine "El Abuelo" that made this house famous.
Today everything is served the same way than 100 years ago!
