Superb service, ok food. Nice place with local food, good beer and wine. Gigant porsons with ok food. ( will not come back because of the food) but will return for a good drink and snack with superb frendly staff.

Loved the atmosphere; the food, not so much. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items. The sizzling platter of steak was extra fatty and not appetizing. Prices on the drinks were good for a touristy area.

The staff are not very friendly. The food was undercooked. The wine was sour. I cannot understand how this place has so many great reviews! Very, very disappointing and certainly never again!

After being recommended to visit this place, thought we would give it a go. Place isn't too bad, food was awful. Ordered oxtail stew, 3 lumps of meat with a bone sticking out of each arrived. The meat was barely cooked. Chicken fillet, ( as on menu ) turned up, undercooked, looked and tasted disgusting. The worst chicken fillet I've... More

Compared to all the other places in walking distance, this was disappointing. We got attitude, from waiters who regarded us with disdain to food that seemed served begrudgingly. The waiters could not explain what came family style for sharing and what didn't. The " baked potato" was certainly baked, but then it was diced. Nothing came with it, not even... More

I was really surprised with this place - food was so tasty and for reasonable price. I took day menu for 13 euros and portions were really big. For this price I have got large prawn tapas, calamari rings with salad, cheesecake and coffee. Recommend it!

THE FOOD: mostly quite delicious. Ordered a variety of food and shares it among friends. Recommendable is: Paella and croquettes. Very bad was the tiramisu (it did not even taste like one!). THE SERVICE: ok. Waiters were quick at arranging our table. Unfortunate was the red wine that was served very cold (since when is red wine served that way?)... More

We had a dinner and it was perfect - tapas, beer, paella, etc. The staff is very friendly, the place is authentic, the prices are democratic.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
