The facade looks cool, the atmosphere inside is nice, the food is simple and mostly tasty, and the service is laid back. It's a nice place to have a simple dinner and a drink, if you don't expect anything thrilling.

Wonderful, unmodernised and unpretentious feel to it, but that was about the only thing in its favour!. Vegetarian choice was very poor, though. I wanted a vegetarian meal. They had scrambled eggs with mushrooms and ham on the menu. I asked for it without the...More

Don't go! We had a variety of entrees: croqettas that were cold and tasteless, neutral olive oil, boring bread, grey and tasteless artichokes and even more grey aubergine. The white asparagus were cold and threaded - the cauliflower was almost ok. But just almost. It's...More

Our first night in Madrid, we were tired from traveling and just wanted to get some reasonably priced nice food before going to bed. Bingo! I had lamb chops with fries and they were awesome. My wife had venison, (the waiter had to draw us...More

This small neighborhood wine bar featuring wine, typical food and cold cuts from La Mancha is very welcoming. Situated in the heart of calle Ponzano in the Rios Rosas neighborhood, the family run business creates a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere. We ordered the house...More

This is a pleasingly traditional little bar in an area of Madrid that's getting more and more trendy. The menu offers traditional dishes at honest prices. Salmorejo was the daily special when we visited and it was good and clearly home-made. If you fancy something...More

It was a place with left-wing sympathies where communists could meet and talk in the dark days when Franco was dictator and political parties were banned. As with the rest of Madrid, the prices have gone up - it's more "El Socialdemocrata" now - but...More

We loved the old-fashioned feel of this restaurant - both inside and out it looked like it could have been there for a hundred years. The service was friendly and although no English was spoken, they did have an 'English' version of the menu which...More

Randomly found this amazing Espana kitchen after walking in Chueca district. Going back for our last night tomorrow. Very nice traditional cuisine.

Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where
many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where
the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and
people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main
thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is
Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables
serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture
of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses
