I work around the corner and have visited the place with colleagues for breakfast and lunch on multiple occasions. For breakfast its fine, have a coffee and try a tapa one of their multiple tortilla choices (they are OK for Madrid, and generous portions), or the normal choice of croissants, toasted bread with tomato and olive oil... As for lunch... More

Did not matter that we did not speak Spanish, or our waiter much English; there is a bi-lingual menu that serves as a basis for discussion. Be guided by the waiter on what is actually available and you'll get an excellent meal in pleasant surroundings. It's a peaceful place used by locals, at least in late February, but the food... I visited this restaurant with a friend during a business trip. I started with white bean soup with mussels followed by a grilled tuna steak with lost of garlic. Both were great and came in huge portions. The service was very nice but only spoke little English but enough for a chat. To the coffee we were offered a brandy... More

One problem with Madrid Restaurants in general is that so many are crowded and noisy. El Teletipo is a clear contrast and an excellent restaurant if you want great food, good service and the ability to talk to each other without shouting. The food from the Pork Milanese to the Monkfish were excellent. The wine list is nice and affordable.... More

Staying in Chamberi

Neighbourhood Profile
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighbourhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.
