We were passing this place late at night and were feeling a little hungry. Initially it seemed closed as it was empty other than a table at the back. However, it seems the family that run the restaurant had closed but were having a bite to eat themselves and they were happy to open their doors and let us in.... More

Enjoyed 20€ Iberico tapas plate with a good cerveza. Jamon was fresh hand sliced by the chef. Also tried the jamon, goat cheese and crab pinchos, the patatas bravas and they also tasted good. No English speaking ....but very friendly service. A smile that lets you smile .... Credit card payment accepted. Lot of locals passing by, which I always... More

Today I had delicious almejas, sandia and sangria. The waiters are among the most professional and friendly in the city, and the clientele quite interesting.

I don´t know where it all went wrong, we had one OK foie gras and then it was all downhill from here. But in a really really bad way. We first came in because it had many awards and pictures and looked kitsch in an interesting way, as though it had been there for a long time and was a... More

We visited De Prado as it was near our hotel. The restaurant was empty and the owner/chef appeared surprised to see us. We were given menus and the owner gave us a cook book that he created and published to look through and proceeded to show us photographs of all the dishes on the menu. There was a 1970's feel... On a recent visit to Madrid we had lunch followed by dinner a few days later in Restaurante De Prado. On both occasions we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Snr Prado, the chef/proprietor, is a most interesting person to talk to - immensely knowledgeable about Spanish cuisine and experienced in the preparation of Spanish dishes. Even after a short conversation it... More

Thanks Alejandro for taking the time to talk to us when we were jet lagged after just arriving in Madrid. So pleased we stayed for a late lunch. Great value food and entertaining stories. Our first meal in Spain. traditional food and filling!

We more or less stumbled across this restaurant in Central Madrid and felt that it was a wonderful find. It was lovely to eat something which resembled hearty home cooking in a place where the locals go with their families for their weekend treat. We started with soup and were surprised when Alejandro produced two steaming tureens, explaining that this... More

I've been in this restaurant because my hotel was very close and since I read positive reviews in tripadvisor. Actually the restaurant did not impress me so much. I had the prado salad, which is actually is, well, a salad with apple, coconut powder, and some dressing. Then I ordered a fish that the owner showed me a book (is... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
