I would call it average. And it’s an ice-cream shop instead of real Italian Gelato. I was disappointed with the taste as to be honest – no difference in taste with any touristic place in the city center. The place itself is ok, nothing special, plastic tables, plastic chairs, a litttle historic corner in a shop - you can read... More

Close-ish to the metro station 'Vittorio Emanuele', the Fassi looks like the entrance hall of a train station but with much better content than any train station I know. They offer about 40 different flavors, both sorbet and with cream. We tried the greek yoghurt, pistacchio, white chocolate, zuppa inglese, pear, and melon and all were of outstanding quality and... This ice cream parlor was started more than half a century ago and has the whole building, their ice cream are excellent, the place is very big, you can take your ice cream and seat yourself at one of the many tables with no additional charge. Their prices are incredibly cheap!

Forget the tourist traps in the centre (and we did try them all), this was the best gelato we had in Rome. The building is worth a visit in itself: a marble palace to ice cream and the history of Fassi. OK, the buying/serving system is chaotic: queue to pay first, then take your ticket to the counter but don't... More

Fassi came highly recommended by the owner of our Bed and Breakfast and it did not disappoint! For 2 medium cones, we paid only $6 and each got 3 flavors piled high. It seemed to be crowded with locals more than tourists, which I count as a good sign. The gelato was very creamy and light. My favorite was the... More

Coming from a country where people scratch off any additional ice-cream from the ice-crem scoop to make it as small as possible and make as much money as possible, this was literally ice-cream heaven. The staff is soo generous and the ice-creams are so big even if you pay for the smallest ice-cream possible (which is only 1.60 EUR)! You... More

The ice cream was the most delicious ice cream i have ever tasted. Also the prices were really low, i think this gelateria is must-have when you are in rome.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
