Our visit brought a nice surprise: the place has changed from what we remembered as a semi-self-service medium-low-level establishment (what is called in Italian a "tavola calda" or "rosticceria") to a refined restaurant where we got some excellent food. This raises some interesting questions about the Tripadvisor reviews: should they be reset to zero when there is such a radical... More

Some interesting menu options. The food was OK, one good meal and another so so. Decent bottle of wine, but a little over priced for what it was.

I somehow wonder about the positive statements seen for this place. We went there for lunch. We the place highly over priced and the quality of the lunch buffet was so so. What drives us mad was the plate of prosciutto and cheese : we got two slices of salami and a few pieces of cheese for 20 €. This... More

A bit outside the center. Basic decoration. Meat and cheese plates were very nice. Good and friendly service. A bit on the expensive side.

Loved this place! Prices may seem a bit high but they are certainly justified for the quality of the food. Beware that the menu is limited to only a few first and second courses, yet the dishes are bold and creative. Given what they are known for, a starter of mixed meats is a must! Service is swift and staff... More

The place is lovely, it could do with softer lighting in the evening or something to warm up the ambient. Service was friendly and attentive. Wine list is really good even for by the glass selection. Food was excellent, simple yet sophisticated. I had "drunk octopus", which was really good and perfect truffle tonnarelli.

Nice place with organic products. Very good knowledge on their wines. Apparativo has many good cheeses and sausages.

Stayed here for dinner, walked in and been surprised about the new fresh style. They opened today after 2 month renovation. We had a very friendly service, typical italian. They served us a fantastic white wine, GARLIDER. You have to taste it. Mix plate from ham and cheese was outstanding... nice atmosphere. We can absolutely recommend the NEW Volpetti

If you are staying for more than a couple of days in Rome, or have been here before and taken in all the main tourist attractions, I would really recommend walking around the Testaccio/Trastevere area. Volpetti is a great stop for a quick snack or a full lunch. The food is good quality and affordable, and you won't see many... More

This place is more of a lunch time dining than dinner. They cook up all different styles of neighborhood foods plus a variety of pizzas. You walk along the case and you just ask and point what you want. It is all made fresh and the turn over is quick so the food is always fresh. Pizzas are long so... More

Staying in Testaccio

Neighbourhood Profile
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.
