we knew this place from an earlier visit. try not to be seated with the other tourists at the cellar floor, ignore the grumpy service (it is not personal) and just enjoy the classic roman dishes, like carbonara and cacio e pepe.

Well frequented by locals and you need to book to get in. Menu is a bit limited but the dishes are very good and beautiful presentation.

The place is a bit snoby and not being high society, I did feel a bit looked down upon, but the meal was very good and the service fine. Prices are on the high side but not through the moon. Except the beer, which is 14€.

Food was delicious!! We had Carbonara and Cacio e Pepe. Both dishes were very tasty. The guy who works there was great and friendly but unfortunately the girl was very bad. Her attitude should be different to the clients. Not good at all. Not friendly at all. Prices are ok but the wine is too expensive for the quality, comparing... More

We were staying close by on a recent trip to Rome and ate in this restaurant twice. The food was very good and staff were cordial and efficient.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Da Danilo because it was recommended to us. Before going to the restaurant we read some reviews from tourists about the rude service and not being let in without a reservation, so we were a bit nervous about going. We decided to dress up and test our luck. When we got to the... More

We came here because we saw that it is highly appreciated and that the carbonara is very good. We wanted to order some antipasti (a mix ) the most expensive one and we were told that we have to order minimum 2 (no explanation, just that we have to get 2). We said that we only want the carbonara and... More

We wanted to try this restaurant for lunch after looking at its good review and when we arrived there at around 130pm, the waitress asked whether we had a reservation (while there were no guests in the restaurant) and we said no and she turned around to check with her boss and the guy shook his head. The waitress then... More

The food is amazing and well worth checking your expectations at the door - before you get there. Call in advance for a reservation from 8ish onward and dress like you mean to have a dinner out, not like you stumbled upon it on your way somewhere very casual and you'll be fine. That's just how it's done and when... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
