We went there based on a recommendation from a guide. Let's start with the good parts: it was really authentic - the menu was only in Italian and handwritten. Bad parts: small selection of food. The food was ok, but not what I've expected (not very good, just regular dishes).

I'm Italian (living in London) and was moved as soon as I saw the menu. Food was exactly what a Roman in his kitchen would have. Couldn't take pictures because it was a business lunch but, oh my, trust me if I say that it made my day.

This is a small restaurant, seating 30 in the front salon, and about12 more at the back. This is well established "diner" that we had been going since 1987. It was and is reasonable for budget minded. There are almost always clerics dining there. Most are regular patrons, policemen, and nearby workers, at the hospitals, for example. The food is... More

Away from Rome Trastevere crowds, this is definitely a restaurant where mainly locals come to eat. I tried their pork bisteca with broccoli and it was good. Price is reasonable as well. With 30 euros two people can have a great meal with wine and Dolci.

We ate here while in Rome on recommendation from a guidebook and were very disappointed. I ordered the ravioli with spinach and ricotta which was fine, and my boyfriend ordered what he thought was beef. What came was a pork steak. Thinking this was simply the language barrier, he ate the steak. Although flavourful, it was severely undercooked, and when... More

Not until later (after a bottle of house wine and minimal food at Da Giovanni) did I realize they overcharged me. Food was good, but disappointed in them (and myself) for being taken advantage of.

Mom and pop type Osteria with a somewhat limited menu. Food is simple but delicious and the prices are a bargain. Our meal for 2 was less than 30 euro

Cheap and cheerful, nice decor, decent service. The food was very simple but tasty. Nice calm place to go to after visiting the Vatican.

We stopped here at the recommendation of a friend. At first we had high hopes as it was full of locals. Maybe we chose wrong, but food was underwhelming. The bread was delicious, though, and we got and ate a second basket. The setting is cozy and the location was perfect--in between two sites were were visiting. However, I wouldn't... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
