Not quite sure how it's got any good reviews on here. Maybe it has ups and downs - in which case it was at the bottom of a trough when we visited. We stopped off out of rain when we came out of the Vatican, to sit and eat under its canopy, but within barely five minutes we were back... More

We were sooooo hungry! Pasta arrived at once, taste was good, but couldn't have been fresh... Pizza is loaded with cheese but I've never seen a thinner dough. Got a salad and some toasted garlic bread, although we did not order them. Bread was great, though :D.

Expensive place for the quality of the food that they bring to us! Also they bring us things that we didn't order but we have to pay finally. The "big mama" was very angry to all and didn't let you choose from the menu-just said something like "this is the best for you". The dishes were dirty, especially for the... More

Where to begin... we stumbled upon this place because most other restaurants were closed at the time. Decided to eat here because it looked like a traditional grandma's restaurant. Well, grandma yes, but not all grandmas are alike - this particular grandma is rude and loud and will order for you. Most dishes we wanted were unavailable, and what eventually... More

As a family, we ate 4 pizza's at this restaurant. Basicly it was the worst pizza ever! And a total rip-off! Menu outside showed for a pizza about EUR 9,-. We orded 7 drinks (2 rounds with 4* and 3* drinks). We ended up paying EUR 62,-! (So about EUR 3,7 per drink!). Furthermore, the lady pretends not to understand... More

I am surprised to see so many bad reviews for this place. We went to this restaurant while leaving from Vatican and we liked it a lot. The pizza (prosciutto) was very good and the staff was very well behaved. I would definitely recommend the pizza here, but unfortunately after looking at the reviews, I am a little confused.

Terrible pizza, added 1euro to the price of everything, and didn't want to give us change. Avoid at all costs!!!

Nonna acts all innocent, but is a shrewd business woman underneath. Food is ok, nothing to write home about, but stay away cause she will rip you off with the prices.

First of all the smell. This hole smells like expired oil and cheapest vinegar, and it smells hard. Not wine, not fried garlic or bolognese - expired oil and vinegar. And when it taste the dishes - they don't disappoint you: it still is something expired and sour. The worst food I tasted in my entire life, seriously. I ran... More

We lovingly call this place "mama's" because the lady running it seems like an Italian"Mama". She barks out orders, is a little gruff and doesn't speak English. You have to know how to order, and just go with it. You are asked "pizza or pasta?" "ensalata?" "vino or birra?". I recommend you go with the pasta, the salad and wine.... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
