The Italian owner of our AirBnB recommended this Osteria and based on the people sitting near us it's popular with locals and tourists alike. I appreciated the fact that there are great house wine options (by 500ml and 1l carafe) and that they list the price of the bread basket in the menu (many Roman restaurants don't and charge you... Good service, great food, tasty house wine. The kid is quite picky on pasta, asked to leave his best reconditions for this place.

We went there on a recommandation from a friend, turned out to be the best carbonara I ever had !! The waiters were very friendly, spoke English and a little French and managed to find us a table without reservation on a busy night. I highly recommend this place to all carbonara lovers, and more generally Italian cuisine lovers.

I'm going to review Osteria da Zio Umberto on two points: 1. Service 2. Food Quality First of all, let me give you my credentials on which my review is based. I am a native of Napoli (Which means I grew up on AMAZING food), I have been baking and cooking since I was 8 years old and I have... More

Nice place and good food, but nothing special or memorable compared to their Roman restaurants. Simple, rustic and good

Had a great meal ---fried calamari, pappardelle with wild boar sauce and husband had gnocchi that were cooked to perfection. Wine and bread also good....a great little casual inexpensive restaurant in a terrific area!

It was my third visit to Roma and the best restaurant so far. The staff were friendly and the food were a very good. I had mushroom&chestnuts soup for lunch and rabbit for dinner. The wine was excellent we had Abbazia Di Novacella Lagrein 2015. Highly recommended.

I've been to Rome several times, and I've gone to many of the restaurants recommended by various guidebooks. This is by far my favorite. My daughter, when hearing we were going back to Rome, teared up thinking about getting to go to this restaurant again. My sentiments exactly.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
