The location is a little bit away from touristy places so you'll just see locals here which I like. I had the Amatriciana which was very good. The wine was OK. Prices were quite good.

We were recommended to this restaurant by a local who went there in Testacchio often. We asked them where they ate and found that we were delighted to eat there too. It was very easy to find, unassuming in the extreme, devour non existent but oozing atmosphere and genuine local vibe. These were the frills but it was the food... More

We went for lunch. They open from noonish to 3pm, as do most Italian Restaurants and then re-open for dinner either at 7 or 730pm. It is a neighborhood restaurant and it has limited menu. They also serve 'interesting' dishes like lamb entrails, oxtail, etc. We had spaghetti and I had rigatoni. both were ok. The green beans were over... More

Reserved here based on rave reviews from food writers but Agustarello was the most disappointing dining experience we had in Rome. Reserved a month ahead, but that clearly was not necessary as the restaurant was completely deserted on a Tuesday evening at 8:30 and pretty much stayed that way. The room lacked the "buzz" of a dining room full of... More

A small, family-run local trattoria with some outdoor tables in summer. The fare is traditional Testaccio — the inexpensive 'fifth quarter' of the animal gets star billing in Rome's old meatpacking district. Offal is sensitively cooked here, so if you're a little nervous but fancy giving it a go, you'll struggle to do better: try the coratella, for instance, which... More

This was a wonderful place for dinner. The menu was in Italian and we were the only Americans in the restaurant, but the waiter spoke enough english to help us order and wasn't irritated while doing so. The food was fresh and delicious and the mood in the restaurant was upbeat. We left at 10:30 and every table was still... More

Augustarello a Testaccio is one of the last gem of Rome. Augustarello himself come from a historic trattoria now unfortunately closed, Turiddo. Food is real, just for the brave...they say is for many but not for all. Although they have the Classics, such as matriciana, carbonara and abbacchio (lamb) please try pajata (lamb intestines till the original veal one will... More

This is one of our favorite places to eat when in Rome. Originally turned on to Agustarello by the folks we were staying with, we go back for the traditional hearty and unpretentious Roman "working man's" dishes called cucina povera or "cusine of the poor", the no-frills neighborhood atmosphere and absence of tourist-type food. If you don't speak Italian or... More

If you want to sample the real Roman dishes you should head to Testaccio and get to Agustarello. It's a very simple modest place as are the dishes but we loved everything about it and the staff is really helpful and explains the dishes thoroughly although only in Italian just like the menu. So having good speaking skills in Italian... More

Staying in Testaccio

Neighbourhood Profile
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.
