We loved this restaurant. It is a small lovely trattoria. The food is great, everything we've tasted (and we were three) was excellent, starting with the Eggplant melanzana, the parmegian soufle, the red onion tart, the fillet, the fish ravioli. And the desserts, not less than excellent. The service is very welcoming and nice, always with a smile. The prices... More

Great Michelin-rated restaurant that is relatively casual and approachable. Most restaurants have only one or two specials, but this is surprising they had about five choices of specials. The specials we had during the time of our visit was a pork tenderloin with cranberry and red peppers and stuffed squid. Paired with red and white wine (the wine is a... More

Friendly service, good food. Just to explain, the "coperto charge" is not an additional charge, the restaurant has merely and conveniently divided the bill by the number of people. For my husband and I, exclusive of wine, our two courses of very good food was 30 each. This included water and bread. We went on a Friday night and the... More

We went to Trattoria Monti on our last night in Rome. We came away a bit disappointed, Our starters were very nice, but Mains a bit average. We expected the bill to be a bit high, due to their reputation, but did not expect to have a "Coperto" of another 47 euro for 4 of us, added to the bill.... More

Booked the Trattoria Monti for our special Valentines night on our Rome break, but unfortunately it was lacking in romance! We were disappointed there was no reference to Valentines with decor or ambiance and it certainly didn't feel romantic with close tables and bright lighting. We shared the onion tart with gorgonzola which was very tasty, i had the stuffed... More

Rome being a very touristic city, our friends and us were looking for a local experience. Trattoria Monti was just that and offered exquisite dishes. The place is designed with refinement and the menu was diverse. As a starter, the baccala (codfish) with black truffles was an explosion of taste. The pasta dishes were incredible: I very much enjoyed the... More

The service was friendly, the food was amazing (especially the Tortello was great). The prices also were reasonable for a place like Rome. Definitely a place to visit.

The pasta was excellent and the pizza was just right. I would surely recommend this place to friends. Ask for the spaghetti with meat sauce, great option. The ambient is amazingly clean and organized while maintaining the classical look.

I found this trattoria while looking for lunch in the Monti area. It was perfect, good food, reasonable prices, great service. I'm a female over 60, travelling by myself & I felt very comfortable and welcomed in this trattoria.

After eating at Trattoria Monti in 2015, I spent the year dreaming of their red onion flan with gorgonzola. Could it possibly be as delicious as I remembered? YES IT CAN! 2016 and we were back in Rome. Had another amazing meal at this authentic and friendly restaurant. We had fun practicing our Italian and while my husband took the... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
