I was very sick this day, but I anyway enjoyed the experience. The place is amazing, the service is fantastic and the food is with a character. First some context: two families with kids, which was no problem to handle by the restaurant, one of them a little baby. We were in search for the real bolognese lasagna. The brodo... More

Our Italian vacation was centered around specific sites, museums and FOOD! This was our first stop for lunch upon arriving in Bologna. Our waiter was a seasoned professional who spoke perfect English and suggested that we share each of three courses. Along with a delicious Brunello, he had us trying the pasta Bolognese, lasagna and a veal dish. All were... More

Nice Ambience, although pretty noisy, and try not to get stuck in the Basement, [where the wines are kept] quaint, but no thanks. Waiters have a lot to do, and you need to chill and wait your turn. Food is good, and prices not extortionate.

A bit out from the historic centre of Bologna but very much worth the trip. Many times we eat in restaurants where the tourists are. And in 8 out of 10 instances we end up disappointed with ourselves. We know that those restaurants dont need to be good to have clients. There will be plenty more possible clients the next... More

I agree with a previous reviewer that took this place to task for dry ragu. We also had terribly dry liver (Fegato), which when we sent it back, took a half hour to overcook the replacement. The suckling pig was dry as well. It feels like they are stuck in a very bad rut. It was certainly busy the night... More

Recommended by restaurant owner in Geelong. The food, ambiance and service were all excellent. It is hard to find but well worth it. The pork shoulder was superb

After a lifetime of cooking and eating Bolognese sauce in NYC, I had to try it in it's hometown of Bologna. Boy had I looked forward to this moment, and such a highly recommended place.........Ugh. It's 15 mins of town so you have to take a taxi to an ugly little industrial hood. The dining rooms are tacky like a... More

4 of us ate here twice, for dinner. It is a short drive from the Encore Ramada Hotel. This is a comfortable, well-lit place. It is quite large - split into 2 large rooms. Long mirrors along 2 complete walls, facing each other, create an interesting ambience. Good quality cutlery and china. There were plenty of serving staff, and they... More

I asked my friends from Bologna where they go for the best local food. They said there are only two choices. La Gigina was one. What a beautiful meal. The Lasagna and the Lamb chops were perfect, in fact unforgettable. The service was attentive and friendly. I think it would be hard to be disappointed here.

The reason for the visit was the fact that this restaurant is listed among those with the best ragu in the Osterie d'Italia guide. With the location of the restaurant, it is hard to imagine that you would find it by coincidence. Even then it looks so dusty and old from the street (you actually hardly notice it; by the... More
