On a quiet aimless meander through Milan we came upon this lovely stylish place. It's beautiful outside, with lovely deco windows, reminiscent of Rennie Mackintosh. Internally it's also wonderful, the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, telling us it housed Italy's very first bistrot. Initially, we sat down for a drink only but were so taken with the place we... More

Stopped here with my wife (native Milanese), as we were staying in a nearby hotel. Most people were here for the excellent aperitivo deal (buy a drink, have access to a buffet of appetizers). I ordered the 'dressed cutlet' (cotoletta di maiale vestita). Very good, basically an arugula/tomato salad on top of perfectly cooked pounded out cutlet. My wife had... More

Great place for late night drinks. A lot of tasteful craft draft beers, nut it doesn't stop there, they also serve a wide range of nice cocktails. Friendly service included!

While walking along San Marco looking for a place to have dinner, we stooped in front of this restaurant. We weren't sure we wanted to go in but asked about the menu. We decided to give it a try and were not disappointed--in fact it was one of our better meals during a 2 week trip! Service was excellent and... More

A local recommended to visit this restaurant and we had some of the best food at a great price. The portions were very generous and service was good. I recommend trying the ossobuco con risotto alla milanese, the cotoletta alla milanese, and the spaghetti al pomodoro. The restaurant has a quite and relaxing atmosphere.

We went to the bar area only as we had half an hour wait for a table in a restaurant nearby (Latteria San Marco). My feet were killing after 3 days of constant walking (Salone del Mobile) and their cocktail called "Corpse Revival" did actually help! Yum! Thanks :)

This trattoria is at the end of the San Marco open market, so it's very convenient after a morning of shopping to pop in here. The menu is Milanese style, so I enjoyed the Ossobucco with Risotto and my wife loved the branzino (sea bass) with vegetables. Prices are very reasonable. I put this restaurant in the category of reliable... More

Wine was good, aperitivo very good, but the place! Oh the place is soooo charming, definitely a good option for that rainy saturday we had! The bartender and the guy serving the table were also very nice! Had a great time there!

Came across this place by chance, one lunchtime. Reasonably priced (Euros 90 for four people - 2 courses plus drinks), attentive service with good food but primi and secondi piatti was a lot of food even though we were all hungry. Obviously used by locals. Worth a visit

We had lunch here on 17 September 2015 having picked it because ot was convenient to the gallery we visited in the morning. We had risotto and osso bucco: both dishes were good quality, and quantity. The bar/restaurant filled quickly for the business lunch time and we appeared to be the only non-locals there. Service was fine and we had... More

Staying in Brera

Neighbourhood Profile
Brera captures the real essence of the city. It is an excellent mix between history and modernity, where tradition meets innovation. Here design and beauty reign. On Via Brera there are the famous Pinacoteca (galleries), the National Gallery of Modern and Antique Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Interior design boutiques and intellectual cafes are typical of the district. Walking along Via Madonnina is a must to admire the architecture of buildings and the design stores. On Sundays, going to the local market is an unmissable opportunity for fashion, style and art. Tucked away, there is the Orto Botanico di Brera botanical garden that seems like a painting framed in an ancient fairy structure. Last but not least, it’s worth a visit to Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli with its Planetarium, the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum).
