Very good vegetarian food but, well, it ain’t the same as non vegetarian food. The ingredients were top notch and very tasty, as is often the case in sophisticated places in Italy. We found the onion tatin to be good but not as good as at other places (Oldani or George V (in Paris), where it was sweeter and a bit crispy too). Service was friendly and attentive but clearly not suitable for that kind of establishment (too young/not trained enough). Bread was good. Cheese, we were a bit disappointed. The gnocchi were fab. Would we go back? Yes...if we have dinner with vegetarian people. Would we recommend it? Yes, to anyone - clearly worth trying. We found prices to be reasonable (about 100€/head for 3 courses).

We are back at JOIA for dinner after some years.
We always remember historical wine tasting dinners.
We have some hesitations to return as more recent dinners were baes on thea :)
Anyway we did remember its cellar, (we can say one of the best we met (see below))
so why not?
we usually go there on lunch and taste is good, but at dinner usually vegetarian rules are stricter,
(with vegan peaks..) so we are curious.
we got two entree AND a first courses: we had to rethink and we did appreciate meals:
its vegetarial cousine is valuable and of high level.
One doubt on sweets: it has been an "historical" problem at Joia.
Wines: we drank a champagne as entre ana another couple if vines.
Antonio, (we knew him in '92..) is passionate and loves to discuss and dares.
So good choice.
We did see manu starred restaurants but I can say the Joia's cellar is one of the remarkable:
- some starred have a limited set of high level wines (the point on brands)
- others cannot keep a great variety 9for space and costs reasons..)
- many simply do not risk..
we drank 3 wines, not so expensive (about 100 a bottle) of little brands, but remarkable.
A pity for cheeses: usually they got a lot: now for f..d Covid they must offer a limite set fo them.
we got:
"Il canto del Beato"
"Porto del sole"
"Relazione privilegiata"
"Il giuoco delle perle di vetro (Piccoli gnocchi di patate)
Only a bad note: some rough people that eat keeping hat: bad!

We went back on 5th Feb to anticipate s.Valentine skipping all that mess.
Last time we were there was before lockdown.
At Joia we usually expect care and attention for the hosts, smart people in the room,
and a huge choice of wines, and, of course, an healthy and good food.
We did find those all fulfilled, and we had a pleasant dinner.
About wines, as usual Antonio made is job brilliantlyl: we drank 2 different wines, a bit far form usual circuits.
Vegetarian food was, as usual, cared and tasty, and, in my opinion, vegetarian "Foie gras" is a smart idea, even if is not equal to the "meat" counterpart.
II ranking for vegetarian stick: you may forget the meat stick.
If someone says vegetables are not good and tasty, Joia can change his mind.

Being vegetarian in the past meant a side salad of sadness as a main, garnished delicately with an absolute dearth of imagination. I’m looking at you tin of tomatoes on penne and you, Risotto of swampy mushrooms that doubles as a miracle of science in the decorating paste sector. It’s a feeling most vegetarians know all too well.
That said, riding mostly on the vegan wave, lots of restaurants have come on and there are some really decent options for vegetarians so I was so excited when I found a Michelin starred vegetarian restaurant. The only problem? It was in Milan. Oh go on then… I decided I’d take my partner there for his birthday, as a lifelong vegetarian he has felt my culinary sadness all too well.
Multiple black items were packed in good order to try (unsuccessfully) to pass off as a local in stylish Milan. A hellish flight was taken, mistakes were made at 30,000 feet in the food department too but follow me on my airline food review page… no not really. Arriving over 1000km later in a stylish white Tesla Uber into Milan I was excited for the experience my taste buds were about to experience. On a touch of a tangent, why can’t Britain not have fresh Tesla’s instead of of waves of Lynx Africa in a Prius… I digress.
The moment my mouth was demanding was the single amazing moment when you put the fork to you lips and you experience a sensation you’ve never had before; flavours bursting, incredible depth of flavour, something you just want again and again. I didn’t get it sadly.
What I got first off was an intro to a restaurant that felt a bit like a hotel buffet bar. Ok, decor isn’t what I’m here for, I just hoped Lenny Henry wasn’t going to appear and offer me some beans. First annoyance was when the sommelier offered us “Italian champagne”, I’ll let you work our what was wrong there yourself. We were given our first wine pairing… and then waited 40 minutes before we saw any food. In fairness to them, the wine was topped up.
The food, well it was just okay in my opinion- some courses were nice, some were confusing to the palate. I know that there is an element of experimentation and raw cookery at Joia, but the basis for me has to be the skill in flavour combinations and cookery of beautiful vegetables. In the end the I’d flew 1000km to eat a compressed ball of salad with a heavy note of sadness. The wine was nice, though hard to say if the pairing worked as the complexities of cucumber are hard to judge. The staff it should be said were very nice.
In the end I actually would have liked Lenny to turn up with his beans.

A place which is incredible whether or not you are a vegetarian (I’m not). This isn’t a standard ‘good’ vegetarian place but rather one where the chef has gone to huge lengths, with a number of genuine experiences and inspirations to create captivating dishes. Go for the 8 course tasting menu…it’s worth it.
As a side note the service is extremely warm and friendly whilst the Japanese-esque minimalist interior is tasteful and unpretentious. They were also extremely accommodating to our small dog and offered him water unprompted…always a plus in my book!

Not worth to try it, definitely not 1* Michelin.
The service was quite poor, waiters exchanged during service, not all bad, but one particularly tired of working did a very poor job. Cherry on top you could hear him talking bad about clients or how happy he was to finish the shift as he was printing the receipts.
Highly unprofessional.
Food really really average. I haven’t had any remarkable dish or taste, and also the ingredients used seemed flat.
Only positive note is we drank a good champagne edition of VC, and the waiter ( unfortunately he stayed not very long) did an amazing job at explaining its story.
Recommendation: I really wanted to try this place and did not care about all the negative reviews I read. I did a mistake, should have not tried and saved time and money.

Definitely satisfied to have finally tried this vegan restaurant. The staff is very kind and the environment is nice. We opted for the framework menu which includes 4 preparations + dessert. Water and coffee included at 35 euros each seems to me to be excellent opportunity to taste chef Leeman's preparations. The plin with grankinara fondue, mushrooms and rocket are wonderful. Both the lentil tempeh and the curried cauliflower salad are very interesting. The cabbage is good but for my taste the presence of cucumber is not necessary. The dessert is also good....a pastry with fruit. Overall I appreciated everything.

The food was nice. The vegan cheese was interesting and the other dishes were excellent as well. The service on the other hand wasn't keeping up with the standard of a Michelin Star restaurant. The waiteres took a plate while the other person was still eating, and she spilled stuff, without saying sorry. The without saying sorry is the important part of that, spilling can of course happen.

I was really looking forward to a special dinner, trying something new. Honestly, smashed avocado with some salad leaves and dressing calling it - “a walk through nature”… not good enough.
Most of the plates didn’t taste good and weren’t interesting.
If you are looking for a vegetarian fine dining experience, try another place, this is not worth it.

We went for lunch on a rainy Friday and chose the square dish formula. The quality of the dishes is high, and with €35 you get four courses + dessert and coffee, service and water included. Absolutely honest price for a starred one! The negative notes concern the somewhat anonymous environment and the taste of the dishes offered, all very "spicy", but changing daily or weekly I think I was simply "unlucky" for not having encountered flavors that were congenial to me. However, I found the dessert truly delicious. Surely the tasting journey must be something else entirely!

I usually go there to have lunch of quality, skipping awful (and fake) ethnic restaurants in this zone.
"piato quaro" is a win: cheap (considering quality) and more important healthy.
As other times we invited young people used to eat other meals: we convinced also vegetarian can be good
A side note: it's a pity some people keep their hats during lunch..
I ask if they know the concept of education,,,

This was probably the best meal we had in Milan. From the amuse bouche - a carrot stuck in a little flower pot that had been filled with a vegetable pudding and covered with a 'dirt' of ground seeds - to the 3 desserts, this was a delicious and memorable meal. I particularly liked the artichoke heart and the vegan "noie gras" that was delicious and had the exact texture of fois gras. some of the dishes were merely good and a few were amazing. worth a visit for sure, even at the steep prices of a michelin starred restaurant.
the setting is quiet, intimate. The staff were great.

Let me start by saying that given that it is certainly a starred restaurant and that the expense is still significant, one is rather critical. 8-course Zenith menu, some truly superlative - such as the risotto and pomo d'oro - others average. Unfortunately, no one told us that the menu could be changed and that there could be substitutions for some dishes, otherwise we would certainly have avoided two aubergine-based courses or the double dessert, for which, moreover, the wine selection was perhaps not ideal. .
As already indicated in other reviews, the dishes are explained in a hasty manner, with a tone of voice bordering on audible, almost mumbling. Wine poured dripping, no one asked us if we wanted to put down our jackets, the gong sounded totally without emphasis, therefore more of a nuisance than a sensorial immersion.
In reality, these are small things, but they don't allow you to leave fully satisfied. Remarkable presentation of the dishes, perhaps to slow down a bit between one course and another to give people time to process and enjoy dinner without rushing.

Very good dining experience! I tried the Zenith menu and liked everything, especially "Travel Notes". The accompaniment of soft drinks interesting, but could be improved, I wouldn't choose it again. It was very nice that the chef stopped by the table discreetly at the end of the meal. Regarding the service, all the guys in the room were very kind and well-prepared, however some details were a bit overlooked, for example if they brought the dishes to two nearby tables at the same time they would shout over each other explaining the courses and this created quite a bit of confusion (they didn't he understood well what they were saying). They didn't always appear elegant or fluid in their service, they realized late that the bag rest was missing. Small things that didn't ruin the overall atmosphere, but I would have appreciated more a touch of class or extra attention (and maybe a smile when paying the bill). Overall very positive experience to recommend and repeat! The food is sublime and worth the money. Compliments!

I return to Joia after years, nothing to say about the quality of the food, the star is deserved.
My reservations are linked to the fact that, initially, it is not possible to eat à la carte but only to choose between a 6-course and an 8-course menu. In theory the €6 one could be reduced by giving up cheese (totally useless) but also an interesting soup which was one of the most appreciated dishes.
The 6 courses with snacks, amuse bouche, pre-desserts and pastries would still become 10, counted like certain foreign starred ones. But the time would perhaps be close to 3 hours, which is a lot for a short menu. I don't understand all this craze about adding things to menus, once upon a time they gave you the pre-dessert from 2 stars and up, now anyone wants to give it to you.
The explanation of the dishes is slow and devastatingly detailed. At the third course I politely tried to explain that I wasn't interested in such detail.
Now, I may have been very tired, but after 2.30 I asked for the bill, giving up pre-desserts and pastries, because I was falling asleep at the table.
At the time of the bill I paid and was charged for two Zenith menus (8 courses) instead of the 6 courses I ordered. The difference is only €10 per person, but here too there are two considerations: never that in a restaurant they make a mistake in my favor, and then if instead of putting these cabbage names on the bill but they had written an 8-course menu I would have noticed.
Small inaccuracies, but having now tried over 110 starred ones across Europe, certain slownesses annoy me.
