We had a super meal at Osteria dei Poeti - simple, unadorned, unpretentious food but so so good! This is Italian food as we imagine it - prepared by your nonna, to a legacy recipe. Simple but not simplistic. Unadorned but not complex; unpretentious but not nuanced. We'll be back!

The restaurant was empty when we arrived, and they were open, but they refused to seat us on account of reservations later in the night. That's somewhat understandable, except that they were incredibly rude in the way they communicated this to us -- like we were idiots and not welcome there. They wouldn't even allow a to-go order for dessert.

When asked to recommend a solid, unpretentious place in the heart of the city, a Milanese friend-of-a-friend recommended Osteria dei Poeti. It was spot-on! Unique menu, amazingly affordable wine list and friendly, no-fuss service! They even have their own cheese cave!

It's about 20 years I frequent this restaurant, initially alone or with colleagues, later with my family. Riccardo and Silvana the owners that run the restaurant are special and make us feel at home and relax. Food is very good, with plenty of alternatives our favorites are strozzapreti, hand made pasta, and the tagliata with one of the many toppings... More

I am from Milan and living in Sweden. Being back here for a few days I wanted to try a place that always attracted my curiosity and I found the real taste of our northern Italian food tradition. A little pricy for a "osteria" an for the portions but totally worth a try!

On Corso Garibaldi on the edge of Brera, lots of mediocre touristy restaurants all around, but this place has great home cooked kinds of dishes. Family run, with interesting recipes from Lombardia and Marche region, I've been several times and it's always great, and service with a smile.

Great costoletta alla milanese. The wine served by glaces was very acceptable. Fair price. Nice service.

From outside it looks tiny but once inside it is not tiny at all. Tidy and clean family owned restaurant. Service is a little old fashioned but the simple menu was good enough for a quick dinner . It is not expensive and for an Italian sausage pasta at 10 Euro was a good price and the quality was very... More

Wonderful home cooked food in a warm and inviting restaurant. Many choices and reasonably priced for Milan. The staff was helpful in coping with our limited Italian, giving us menus with descriptions in English of what these authentic dishes consist of. Everything we tried was new to us and delicious. Try the pasta with zucchini and saffron sauce. Va bene!

Pretty nice little restaurant, good food, friendly personnel and delicious homemade desserts! However it's not a good idea going to the bathroom, unless you really need to.

Staying in Brera

Neighbourhood Profile
Brera captures the real essence of the city. It is an excellent mix between history and modernity, where tradition meets innovation. Here design and beauty reign. On Via Brera there are the famous Pinacoteca (galleries), the National Gallery of Modern and Antique Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Interior design boutiques and intellectual cafes are typical of the district. Walking along Via Madonnina is a must to admire the architecture of buildings and the design stores. On Sundays, going to the local market is an unmissable opportunity for fashion, style and art. Tucked away, there is the Orto Botanico di Brera botanical garden that seems like a painting framed in an ancient fairy structure. Last but not least, it’s worth a visit to Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli with its Planetarium, the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum).
