My wife and I and another couple dined here one evening. It was a horrible experience. None of us even remotely enjoyed our meal. It was the only bad meal we had during a 16 day trip in Italy.

A bit further away from the touristy lake piazza you can find this really cozy terrace restaurant. Lots of plants and flowers decorate the little terrace with views on the higher located basilica. We had heard that this outdoor restaurant a bit off the main square had the best risotto in Lake Orta’s village of Orta San Guilio. The risotto with leeks and olives may be the...best in Italy. Just love it! Although not on the water, perfectly located, right in the middle of Orta. Family run place, cured, friendly .. and delicious ! Absolutely great local cuisine, fresh and authentic ingredients and recipes. To be tried and enjoyed. I’ll be back soon!

La Motta was recommended by the Mastercard concierge service so we booked dinner there as a special meal during our stay in Orta. We were not disappointed. The setting was perfect on the outside terrace with appropriate lighting and quiet music that was not intrusive...(A lesson for many other restaurants!) The terrace also looks up to the view of the main church in Orta which adds to the ambiance. The staff were extremely welcoming and pleasant and the menu was well-balanced and not outrageously expensive. The wine list was extensive and had bottles to suit all tastes and pockets. The food was beautiful and accompanied by a very good wine at a reasonable price. The whole experience was extremely enjoyable and one of the highlights of our stay in this beautiful town. Fancy restaurant. Very nice food, tasty. Good service, little formal. Beautiful terrace and also beautiful inside accommodation.

Food is fine but menu tries too hard. Reasonable selection - fish pasta etc - but trying to be a “fine dining” restaurant and thus more expensive than others. Still, perfectly taste and no reason not to give it a go.More

This place is in the city center of Orta San Giulio. When the day tourists are gone, the center is a quiet small place and this is a very good restaurant. We both ordered some fish which was delicious and very well prepared. We also...had some great wine. Staff was friendly and professional.More

The very friendly welcome and a glass of an interesting local wine, featuring a blend of eight grape varieties, prepared us well to study the lunch options. We chose the carpaccio of duck followed by the daily special, baked onion soup. Both were excellent, as...was our shared semifredo dessert. Our host was knowledgeable and informative about the wines of Piemonte. Good value!More

We were looking for somewhere a little bit special to celebrate my wife’s birthday, not to pricey or pretentious, and stumbled across this lovely restaurant. Waiting staff were very helpful, food a nice mix of local ingredients, beautifully cooked. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
