Really liked our exprience at this cosy restaurant in the centre of Orta. The food was excellent, both creative and delicious.

Not tasty at all and very small portions. Not recommend this restaurant, only one cook is working in the kitchen. Hope it changes
An excellent restaurant at the center of Orta San Giulio. The setting is humble, but the food is very imaginative, creative and tasty. Worthy of 2 Michelin stars.
Reviewing the restaurant, not the bistro. We tend to avoid the formality of these "starred" institutions and wish we had this time if I'm honest. It all felt sooo awkward, from the young man who greeted us (he looked scared to death) to being told...that I couldn't move my seat a little. The dining room had a funereal atmosphere to it, I was all for leaving but my companion thought we shouldn't. You seem to be encouraged to have an "aperitivo" at 25 euros, for that we had an ok glass of prosecco, not a good start. There then followed some amazing mouthfuls, all very artfully spread across the table. We ordered the pasta with duck ragu which sounded delicious and looked promising on arrival. Sadly, even with the welcome addition of a foie gras sauce all you could taste is orange and more orange. Wierd. A poor dish. Then, perhaps the best pigeon ever! Beautifully done. My wife's turbot was painstakingly made but ordinary to taste. We shared a pleasant chocolate dessert. A bit try too hard for us all round. Just not our thing anymore I suppose but they do need to make it feel more welcoming.More
Showing a Michelin sign doesn’t mean much .. certainly a nice place .. one of the nicest views of/on Orta.. cute and cured trattoria. Menus are a bit poor, not that much choice … food/dishes are ok, but nothing extraordinary.. wine card is generous with...fair prices , though strangely more French than locally oriented.. service is kind but … sloooow .. we waited almost an hour for the antipasti and another hour for the prime .. and the place wasn’t even full ..🤦♂️More
Dear Stefano, I thank you for your review. I'm very sorry but I believe there is a misunderstanding. La Locanda has two restaurants: a bistro with simple cuisine on the terrace and a gourmet restaurant inside the bill, on the ground floor. You ate in...More
Simple but beautiful setting, really friendly service without being too much (as it is often in Italian restaurants) and a tasting menu with a perfect wine pairing. Definitely worth coming back some day...
It was our best dinner during our 2 weeks holidays in Italy. The tasting menu was delicious and the combination of flavours was just superb. We enjoyed every single dish. The service and the attention to details was excellent. I think they might get soon...their 2nd star!More
When we made the reservation we were offered a table outside but in the end this was not possible anymore even though the weather in September was really nice. We ended up in the wine cellar which was very nice as well. The food was...really amazing and the wines that came with the food as well. Not cheap but definitely recommended.More
This restaurant may have a Michelin star but don't be tempted to stay in its attached rooms. To be fair the price asked asked is not unreasonable and the location is good, but there is no service at all in the hotel. Access is difficult,...- bring anything more than a small overnight bag and you'll struggle, to access your room, car parking is available at 15 Euros per day, but the hotel won't tell you about it, and if you arrive on a Sunday in high season the local police will turn you away from the ZTL. Breakfast is appalling, even by Italian standards - there are many better places to stay in Orta San Guilio.More
Had degustation lunch with a group of friends. We were a little anxious as we heard they had a new chef, but had heard he kept the Michelin star. The amuse buche were amazing and interesting especially the tomato biscuit and "chicken sandwich". The rest...of the meal, while still very good, seemed a let down after that. The "scallop pretending to be gratin" however probably missed the mark in presentation although the taste was fine. The pre-dessert fruit soup of peach and mango and the petit fours at the end were also excellent. Wine pairings by the sommelier was good. Overall good experience but some dishes missed the mark.More
The modern, elegant restaurant space was housed in a beautiful villa in the heart of charming Orta San Giulio. The waiters and sommelier we had were attentive, professional and helpful. Our degustation meal started with 4 complimentary amuse bouche, all of which were delightfully beautiful,...creative and delicious. Most of the wines chosen by the sommelier were locally sourced, matching the food perfectly. The best savoury dish we had was the veal and eggplant - matched with a wonderful Italian Pinot Nero (aka Pinot Noir). Dessert was an experience in its own right! Apart from the Yoghurt, Green Apple and Elderberry dessert on the menu, the petit fours were incredible. We heard that the Chef that helped this place gain one Michelin star had left, but the new Chef has maintained the star. Although we felt there were one or two dishes that were not as appealing, Locanda Di Orta remains a worthwhile place to dine if you are in Orta San Giulio.More
We came to celebrate our friends wedding anniversary, they had a villa on the island, the food was wonderful, the service was good, the views were just awesome, so very old world Italian, so very good
Great dinner with fantastic view. Reservation is recommended and remember to ask for terrace table. Perfect for sunset dinner (sunset at 9pm)
Our meal started and ended with 3-4 complimentary amuse bouche, savory at the start and sweet at the end. Each was was beautifully presented, inventive and simply delicious. That alone was worth the price of admission and justified the restaurant Michelin star. The puzzling thing...about the meal, however, is that the actual food we ordered and paid for, while good, fell short of the lofty expectations created by the complimentary bites and would not, by itself, have merited such status. The meal was still overall an interesting and enjoyable experience, the staff was attentive and professional, and the price tag was reasonable for the totality of the meal.More
