Stopped for a bite to eat and a drink in the early afternoon sun. Ordered a pizza and some grilled octopus and bread plus a few drinks. Food and drink came pretty quickly. Food was ok not 5* but ok. Not to pricey to enjoy dappled sun and a bit of people watching. Nice relaxing hour and a half.

Drinks were fine. They couldn't go too far wrong with a prosecco and a coke. My husband ordered the cicchetti. It was mostly inedible. Stale bread and sad looking prawns. Something that resembled a scotch egg (which he hadn't ordered) filled with tasteless rice. I ordered 3 bruschetta which never turned up! Did ask a couple of times where it... More

We considered this our happy hour stop during our stay in Venice. Great wine and appetizers. The service was very good.

Our tour guide recommended this place for dinner after an evening tour. Not right on the plaza so a bit less crowded and easier to get into. Also not a pricey as the places right on the plaza. The food was good and the service was certainly acceptable. The seating was outside and it was a great evening so that... More

Very popular for evening aperitif and snacks. On a hectic small camp. Outside tables. Average pizza. Cover charge. No bargain. On the right one room with bar attractive, the other grim and tired. Would not recommend. Go to Antica Sacrestia at the same price.

After strollong through Palazzo Ducale we were thirsty, hungry and tired. Our lovely hotel Flora had recommended this restaurant and since there were tables outside in the sun we decided to have lunch there. We adults had salad with bresaola and rucola. Our teenage grandson had pasta and a big ice cream. It was lovely to sit there in the... More

The pizza and Valpolicella were both excellent. Everything tasted very fresh. The service was friendly if a little slow, but we weren't in any rush and Venice was VERY busy with the carnival this weekend. The restaurant is spacious modern and clean. We visited this restaurant several times during our stay, sometimes for food and sometimes just for a drink.... More

Nice location and good dishes, but sad service and poor dishes' presentation. The waiter was confuse and inelegant, and he dropped the pasta on my friends.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
