Do Spade is just down the alley from another historic cantina. Both are great places to have cicchetti (and wine), but I like the feel of Do Spade better. The staff were friendly, there was music playing, and I as a single, senior woman felt more welcome there. The first time I walked by today (about 1:30) it was packed.... More

Went there for lunch and it was crowded with cichetti clients. Ordered the cichetti tasting plate (stuffed squids, sardines in onions and big prawns), frittura mista, and spaghetti with scampi in spicy sauce. Best frittura mista in Venice! Food was absolutely gorgeous and reasonably price! Service was excellent too - waitress take time to explain what was in the cichetti... More

The food and wine are simply done but that's not to say that they aren't good. They are great. I've no idea what 'authentic Venetian' food is, but if it's not this that'd be a real shame. Book ahead for an evening table. We had to come back twice. Don't let the young crowd drinking outside put you off. Very... More

Casanova reputedly ate here, probably at the same tables in use today! This is a bit of a hole in the wall, but a very hospitable hole serving among the best "cichetti" in Venice. The ambiance is casual in the extreme, seating is a challenge (do reserve ahead), service is hectic though cheerful. The food is excellent. Pastas and risotti... More

This little restaurant is tucked away down a narrow alley and it gets very busy! If no tables are available people stand outside with their drinks and plates of cicchetti. Even though the place is so busy the staff have time to help you choose your meal and give recommendations. We shared the mixed seafood platter and then had 2... More

The bar is at a narrow street tucked beneath a covered path. We discovered it by chance and noticed lots of locals hanging outside the bar. The food is quite sophisticated for a bar, lots of seafood, veggies and traditional fried cicheti. The local wine selection was very good. The bar gets flooded with people shortly after it opens at... More

Walked in off the street without a reservation and luckily got a table in the bar. Ordered from the menu - (not the bar food which was different) - and it was all really good. Everything was delicious and great wine really good value. Also liked the atmosphere - a real little wine bar type feel with good service &... More

We shared a mixed platter of deep fried fish and local dishes and had a primi piatto each. Every plate was excellent. Go for the sea food and have some prosecco and you won't go wrong!

We were taken on a fabulous walking tour of Venice to enjoy the food and wines of the city. We started at Cantina Do Spade, and what a start. Great atmosphere, fun friendly and efficient staff. Lovely traditional food and local wine. Portion sizes were generous and what we could see if the prices, more than reasonable. Well, well worth... More

Description
One of the most ancient Venetian osterie, the Cantina Do Spade is only a few steps away from the Rialto Bridge. This bacaro offers a variety of cicheti: small typically Venetian snacks like fried squid rings, meatballs, mozzarelle in carrozza, baccala mantecato etc. Here our friendly staff and atmosphere will make you feel at home, but with the opportunity to taste fine and fresh food.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
