Wonderful food, delightfully authentic. Staff lovely. Loved the local scampi and sour starters and the biscotti with vino was delightful.

I don't often leave reviews but felt on this occasion I should.Visited this place based on the reviews I had seen and had high expectations...... it came nowhere near. The menu was really limited but there was a good choice of local wines. We shared a crab dish which was the on the specials list which was tasty and the... More

We had 2 lovely dinners on 2 consecutive evenings. Lovely service, warm and stylish atmosphere...and pretty delicious food. Seafood fritto misto a particular highlight, and enjoyed some unusual local wines. In a city of often overpriced, mediocre restaurants L'Anice Stellato is a stand-out little success. Ciao!

We only found out about this small restaurant on a very small, quiet canal in the Cannaregio district of Venice, because our tour guide recommended it to us when we said we didn't eat meat but did eat fish. We really enjoyed the fish dishes we chose, and raved over their zabaglione ice cream done three ways - far superior... More

We came across this name in a travel magazine and decided to give it a try because we stayed in Cannaregio. We enjoyed our dinner very much. The food was delicious and well presented, the wine was excellent and the waiters were both competent and charming. The ambiance was great, so laid back and classy and the same time. I do... More

We had no great expectations of L'Anice Stellato - it was just the nearest restaurant to our hotel. It's an informal place, not too big, decked out in dark wood; some of the bigger tables can be shared at busy times. Staff were friendly from the outset and impressively multilingual: fellow diners were English, French, Spanish and Luxembourgeois and they... More

Very nice atmosphere, friendly service and very delicious dishes. We celebrated our second night in Venice without pizzas and pastas in 4 different languages. Prices are moderate and no copertas and service-fees. We can really recommend this restaurant!

We were recommended this restaurant to celebrate a 30th Birthday and we were not disappointed. The food was lovely and the attention to detail was spot on. Their local house wine was very nice and reasonably priced too. The staff were very friendly and attentive but not in a pushy way. Would definitely recommend to others.

We went here having read outstanding reviews but left feeling very underwhelmed. Whilst the atmosphere, and location are charming, we got the sense that they were aspiring to a higher level of haute cuisine than they were capable of delivering and failing to be either a great local restaurant or a fine dining experience. The pasta was ordinary, the fish... More

By the canal side of Fondamenta De La Sensa is Anice Stellato, a lovely cosy Osteria in Cannaregio, Venice. Innovative cooking mixing established Venetian flavours with modern cooking styles. Try the Scampi 'Saor' a generous plate of scamp with white onions, pink peppercorns and a sweet/sour flavour. The Bigili crayfish and scampi pasta was superb as was the Pasta Ragu.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
