Very cozy restaurant, good osteria food and lovely genuine service. Surely a nice hidden spot away from tourist traps!

What a find. Recommended by a local dress maker, Osteria ai Assassini was a splendid immersion into a local Venetian meal. I could cut my veal with a spoon. The entire menu was in Italian, but our waiter deciphered each line item for us. FANTASTIC MEAL.

We were recommend to come here by our hotel and we were left really disappointed. Some of these reviews have left me scratching my head. Possibly we didn't order well? After a long day traveling and walking in the cold for our first meal of the day we were greeted with stale bread in a basket, (which we ate as... More

What a find! Our concierge recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed! Seafood is their specialty and everything was delicious. Very reasonable prices. Decor was cozy and service is friendly and efficient by Venetian standards.

My girlfriend and I had a great dinner here during our first visit to Venice. The menu changes daily based on what is fresh but we had a seafood platter as an appetizer, then shared a seafood pasta dish and third had the mango fish. All three were absolutely delicious along with the house red wine. ( We even bought... More

Our concierge recommended this restaurant. It is a local "mom and pop" place with fresh food where selections change based on the market. The menu is in Italian, but the extremely friendly and helpful waiter translated for us. The pastas were fresh, the antipasti with a variety of cheeses and charcuterie was delicious and dessert was good as well. Just... More

After five days of wandering around the back streets of Venice looking for 'the place' to eat and being continually disappointed, we found this little gem for our last lunch. The menu changes daily, a good sign, and is very reasonably priced. Excellent local dishes with real flavour and a very friendly owner.

We arrived at nearly 8pm and there was no one there, but most of the tables were booked and it quickly filled up, mostly with Italians. The menu is only in Italian, because it changes daily. The food was nice, but the main courses could have done with a bit more sauce. The service slowed down as the place filled... More

We found this in the rain quite late on our last night. It's a lovely place inside and we were given a warm welcome despite arriving after 9pm when it closed at 10pm. The menu was in Italian but the person taking the order translated for us and pointed out the vegetarian things for us. The food and wine was... More

We ended up here a Saturday evening, not really by choise but as all places we tried were booked out. We were a bit apprehensive as the restaurant was half empty and all other in the neighbourhood were full. As it were, everything was reserved apart from one table which we got. Service was cheerful, our waiter spoke fluent English... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
