During the summer months there are a handful of tables out on the busy street. Interest people watching. Food was excellent and very stylishly presented. Took a while to get, but that was ok. Reason for not giving 5 *s was the service. Waitress was the most unfriendly and grumpy staff we encountered on our month-long trip.

The location is great for when you need a bite to eat close to the main piazza, but they don't want you to take your time. The pizza was not great, so I would recommend eating pasta instead. Pretty expensive, but unless you go off the main drag in Venice that is what you will get.

I stayed near Da Poggi in 2015 and had a wonderful meal with friends. After a not so good meal at another restaurant, I returned to Da Poggi for another delicious meal. When I visited this year, I went out of my way on two occasions to dine here. I brought a friend, and family with me, and they were... More

We were staying in Carraregio and had 2 recently-reviewed, highly-rated restaurants (one review yesterday!) on our list - and, astonishingly, found them closed! Not just "chiusi", but newspapers-over-the-window closed. We backtracked into the inviting front door of tiny "da Poggi", and discovered this warm, multi-award winning neighborhood restaurant. Our waitress seated us immediately and was helpful with suggestions to this... More

We had Spaghetti Bolognese & Spaghetti Carbonara, as well as a bottle of house wine. They all tasted really good and it was all 5*, up until it came to paying: some of the prices were higher than the menu! When confronted, the waiter admitted without arguing, apologised and reduced it back to normal (hence why so many stars) but... More

Had a very enjoyable meal and the service excellent and staff very helpful. The food itself was of a very high quality and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting Venice.

Our lunch there was a bad experience, we ordered two dishes of pasta with clams and two of baccala. In the pasta we found sand and there wasn't any taste but pepper and oil. The baccala was a see of tomato sauce with very few pieces of fish. They spoiled our anniversary meal!! It seems that in the past this... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
