We needed a restaurant for our last night in the Dorsoduro so I consulted Trip Advisor. People said it was great and you could just walk in without reservations. They also open at 6:15 which I like but many Europeans don't. They only had one red and one white wine from Treviso, nearby. Both were delicious. We started with a... More

Late Sunday dinner. Split a lovely Caprese with excellent olive oil. For main courses, the fish soup which isn't 'chowder' as translated but more of an actual soup with a lovely flavor. The gnocchetti with shrimp in a cheese/cream sauce was particularly good. Followed by sweet profiteroles, with an emphasis on whipped cream. Perfetto!

Definetly not a tourist trap, we ate scallop and shrimp pasta and a simple lasagne here and also some desserts. All of them was above Venetian avarage. If you are near the Accademia you should try it.

We were photographing the sunset from a nearby bridge on our last evening in Venice, and decided to choose a nearby restaurant. With 3 to choose from, we decided to come here. The food was superb (both seafood and pasta), the wine was excellent and inexpensive ($12 per bottle), and the service was excellent. All in all, and excellent way... More

My husband and I got lost in our first night in Venice and ended up away from the crowds at this cosy restaurant! We found the restaurant authentic and charming! The service was lovely and the food yummy! A nice distraction from the busy tourist areas!

We were frustrated with the non-stop flood of tourists crowding the Grand Canal from several cruise ships docked nearby and needed to find something quiet, something like the Venice we had always heard about and were hoping to see. We found it wandering around just outside some nice residential areas where the tourists avoided. When we entered this small restaurant... More

Six couples stayed in Venice for 4 nights in a rented house and we ate here twice. The first night we arrived around 6 pm and went searching for a restaurant around 8 pm. Most of the local restaurants were small but when we passed Ai Cugnai the owner invited us in and made room for all 12 of us... More

Unimpressed by the food here - we were a party of 6 getting lunch here in December. The food was substandard - pasta sauces uninspiring. It was convenient to our rental apartment and had great reviews but we did not enjoy the food at all. The meat and cheese platters were OK but the pasta dishes were bland. I think... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
