Service is slow and inattentive and full of Italian disdain. 10 mins before menus were brought. 10 more before orders taken. Cold starters took 20 mins. Then they cleared out table and forgot out mains. Eventually they were brought but they tried to serve them to the wrong table next to us. Carpaccio of beef and the Parma ham were... More

Nice looking restaurant and the food looked great so we thought we would give it a try. Really good food the service was great and the prices were very reasonable. Would not gamble trying a different restaurant for our last evening so we will be returning.

We stumbled across this restaurant while looking for a place to have drinks. It is on a square and has a very large amount of outdoor seating. It was the very beginning of lunch (about midday) and so, despite the fact that about 2/3 of the seating was unoccupied, we tried to attract a member of staff's attention to see... More

After arriving in Venice and checking into our nearby hotel we justed wanted to go for a quick lunch and stubled upon this small but authentic little restaurant. There's an outdoor seating looking over a beautiful piazza. We just had a simple lunch with a glass of wine but loved everything about it. Friendly service, good food, nice place -... More

We stumbled upon this lovely al fresco restaurant in a large quiet square. The pizzas are excellent as were the Aperol spritz! Efficient service too.

We wanted to sit at a table for 4, because it was quieter in that section. Nope. We could sit only at a table for two. We ordered one pizza to split (it was lunch) and water. The pizza was adequate. We asked for the bill...and waited longer than it took to order the pizza and eat it. Surprise! There... More

Had a very nice meal here, was quite expensive due to the sevice charges. Desserts were brought out on a board so we could choose, they were very good. People have moaned about the Pizzas on here, but they are not allowed to have pizza ovens in Venice due to fires, so not traditionally made. Nice to sit outside. Service... More

We stumbled across this restaurant, in an attractive square. That is about the only good thing that can be said about it. The tasteless seafood pizza arrived lukewarm. The waitress offered to reheat it, which we refused & requested a new pizza, as a reheated pizza would be like eating leather. She said that as she regarded the plate as... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
